I noticed on Viki that among several Chinese series offered (sometimes big ones), especially those from ■■■■■ and outside of Viki’s own AI translation, the genders were often reversed. In many cases, males are gendered as females and vice versa, even in series from 2026.
Hence my question: if there are people doing the subtitles, why does it seem like it’s just a translation done by AI? (Since gender reversal is a known issue.)

d’où ma question , pourquoi si il a des personnes pour faire les sous titres , on a l’impression que c’est juste une traduction faite par ia ? ( vu que l’inversion de genre est un probleme connu )
To answer your question: Many Chinese dramas come to Viki with pre-subs given by the content provider. Often, the pre-subs are not changed or edited by the volunteers until much later, sometimes weeks after the episodes with the pre-subs have been posted. because depending on the drama, sometimes V will not allow the volunteers to edit a drama until V has posted all the episodes first. Some examples of this were “Love Between Lines,” “Speed and Love,” and I think “Prisoner of Beauty.” All these dramas V posted the episodes over a few weeks with the pre-subs and volunteers were not able to access the dramas until all episodes had been posted. This could be why you keep seeing the gender reversal in the subtitles. Viki uploads the pre-subs and then it can be weeks before volunteers edit the pre-subs.

Hello all,
Is Viki licensing less premium dramas? Is this just a normal drought, or has Viki changed something? I am noticing mostly mini dramas and or movies lately, and the bigger dramas are showing up on N------. Just wondering if this is the new normal.
It seems to be, at least lately, it is so. 
That’s quite true, at least for many of the biggies. It’s probably a policy change (hope not 
) or HR change or the bidding for licensing rights were too competitive, too costly.
Sure hope not or Viki will lose a lot more subscribers than it already has.
I’m hoping Viki will shore up its content with substantial C’s and K’s like it used to

Thanks for your response. I was also wondering if there is a “leaving soon” list or any way to know if dramas on my list are going away before I have a chance to watch them. Especially curious if older Kdramas on my list are going to still be available to watch.
