ive never been an English moderator but i want to be, although im not sure what exactly we have to do differently from other language moderators.
can someone tell me about it? what do we have to do?
Most of the channel managers who are looking for English moderators want them to be a QC and it’s basically the most important moderator of a whole subbing team because they need to find people who are active. But it’s not that different from any other moderator. If you want to be an english moderator of a korean drama it’s better that you know korean too, but I know a lot of eng moderators who aren’t fluent in korean and are doing a good job. So yeah, it’s not that different.
It depends on the channel manager what English mods have to do. My English mods don’t have to know Korean.
What my English mods mostly do:
- Help me keeping an eye of the channel and answer questions etc. (just like any other mod)
- Notify the seggers and or subbers they can start. (depending how I plan to work)
- Moderate the Timed Comments in English (every mod should do that for their own language)
My English mods are not in charge of the subbing team, unlike other language mods for their language, I put my chief editor in charge of that as my Korean is very beginner level so no idea who’s doing a good job and who isn’t.
Long story short: Ask the CM what they expect you to do as an English mod.
Definitely ask the manager what they’re expecting, because it really does depend.
For example, if I want someone to help recruit and watch out on the channel (and I felt they were qualified to do so) I’d probably add them as a second manager. Maybe if the channel were really popular, I might want to add another English mod to help out with some of that stuff too. But I’ve started reserving English mod positions for editors if I’m managing a channel.

It’s the real-time comments that you can see when you watch a drama I think
yeah i use them but i dont get how you moderate them??
If you’re a moderator of manager, there’s an option on the video management page for it.
Moderating them probably is just deleting anything with offensive language, etc.

Yes the timed comments are the comments you see on top when you watch something and you have switched that option on. I don’t want any swearing, name calling or begging for subs in there so those messages get deleted.
And next to the normal English mods I also give everyone of the editor team an English mod status so they can do their work more smoothly so in my channels you always need to check the wall to see who is a mod and who just has that status for an other purpose.
