We often need a good dictionary to help us when we’re translating. So I thought it would be a good idea to start a topic about dictionaries… We could share info about good on-line dictionaries that we know!

I know it’s great for beginners as well as pros who are having hard time its good for everyone, helps me alot in any case.

To translat into what language?

When I am stuck with korean words, i find http://dic.naver.com my best resource. Most of the terms will be translated into chinese, japanese, and/or english. Since I know chinese too, it is my best tool to translate a word or phrase :slight_smile:

@bianca_lee_4: All languages. The objective is to help beginners in general! Well, not only beginners… whoever needs a good dictionary!
I use English dictionaries for a long time, but it’s the first time I’ve heard about milie’s suggestion.

@ngone8: I suffer because of google translator. LOL It’s not always right and precise, especially when you try to translate a whole sentence. As a moderator, I see many people using it in a bad, bad way. It might be good when you’re looking for one word, but “sentences” most of the time come out wrong.

Haha… I mean, I think you could say that for any translation/dictionary device. They’re not meant to translate full texts or anything. Grammar and sentence structure are a weird thing for most languages.

I love Google translate, but I guess I see where it’d be very frustrating to deal with people who use it wrong.

@scircus: Yes… you have to be wise when you use it. It’s very helpful, I don’t deny it. But when you don’t know the language very well it can be terrible. For example, if you want to translate “He gave me the cold shoulder” into portuguese, it’ll translate all wrong xD
