This is true for any older drama you can think of.
But more precisely at the moment I was concerned about the two Iâm working on right now, Beethoven Virus and New Heart, as Iâm putting quite a lot of time into them.
They told me back in 2016 that East of Eden will expire in May 2017 and itâs still on. About Swallow the Sun, it was said âsoonâ, not that it already ended. But who knows.

For instance âSecret Gardenâ (first drama off the top of my head) is locked in my region (Canada).
But when I right click the Secret Garden Viki webpage I see a whole bunch of countries where it is still licensed (seems like mostly European countries)
Apparently when we were told the licenses for certain series were expiring, the license was expiring for some but not necessarily for all countries. And I have been assured that the viki negotiators are attempting to renew licenses for several of the series which were announced as expiring. Furthermore, if any series is re-licensed all the subs have been backed up so that the series will be uploaded with the subs viki volunteers created.

thanks @irmar this is really helpful when looking for subbers in particular those who are not QCs. I just had a case where I understood the drama was available in Europe but I found out itâs only for QCs, this helps to avoid regional confusion and guessing when hiring. 
I just got a reply from viki staff, where I was told that due to legal agreements with the content providers, they are not able to provide the licensing information such as the license expiration dates in advance.
I had asked worried about 4 older shows Iâm working on.
Of course this will mean that less and less people will concern themselves with older shows. I know I wonât be working on any older show after I finish these ones. Iâd hate to see the license expire just after Iâm finished or just before Iâm finished. Itâs a major turn-off.

I did a quick check today and all the dramas I searched for are still available for me. I looked up about half of those mentioned in the thread. I think that means the licenses didnât expire globally but just in some regions. I am in Europe and I"m a QC so could that be a reason that I can still access these shows?

Either that or they have been negotiating for renewal. At least I hope so.
Ghost/Phantom also seems to be gone 
I was happy to see this morning that
Faith (The Great Doctor), Secret Garden, I hear your voice, Good Doctor ,King of Dramas, Rooftop Prince, Trot Lovers, My Love from the Star are still there.
City Hunter too, although itâs not available for my region, but then maybe it wasnât available before, I had never checked.
Maybe the licenses were renewed.

All series that had lost the licences because the big three channels asked for it because they would launch kocowa now that viki has a partnership with it, it was expected they would be available for the viki plus holders9for USA, Canada and South America)
Yet it didnât happen for quite a few. Strange, right?

Anyone tried to look up Indian content, there are a lot of channel in the project finder, but only a little more than a hand full of TV series and one movie under âexplore functionâ ?
