History books about your country?

Since Viki is a global community, I thought it would be a good place to ask.

Do you recommend any good books about your country’s history? Preferably before 1900 and not USA (I’m covered with recommendations, no other reason) but I’ll take any recommendation.

Anything that is interesting and not just names and dates, and not inflammatory stuff.

It could be your country or something you read, of course.

You mean real history books, or novels history related?

Real history.

Okay, apart from that maybe this page is something for you

Maybe you can try to look for books from author Hagen Schulze, he wrote several books about Germany (f.e. Germany - A new history) and Europe, some are translated into English, or maybe even other languages.

I’m looking specifically for history books, not information in general.

I just like reading history books.

I think this is a good read for you then, it also states books you can read. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Netherlands

And this s also very informative for those who don’t know the difference between Holland and The Netherlands:

I was hoping someone had read something specific and liked it and would like to share, a bibliography is a bit too chaotic for what I had in mind…

Those kings are the most special king in Vietnamese feudalism society:

  1. Lý Nhân Tông: longest reigning time

  2. Lê Trung Tông : shortest reigning time.

  3. Nguyễn Dục Đức: accused of editing his royal father’s order, wearing color clothes on his father’s father, adulterating with palace maid of his royal father. The king was left until starvation to death.

  4. Minh Mạng: The king with so many :scream: wives
When a king slept at night, 5 wives would wait on him. Every 2-hour each wife will serve him, and the Court of Imperial Clan will record if they have conception later.

  5. Lê Thần Tông: first king twice ascend to the throne, and the first Vietnamese monarch marry Westerners

Each wife of his belong to each nationality.

  6. Lý Thái Tổ: founder of Later Lý era; king with the most respectable reign name

Rumor that he even had illegitimate children outside so that’s unable to count. :scream:
