Since I live in Europe and my only legal sources for Korean dramas are either the KBS youtube channel or viki, I am not too happy that the big 3 broadcasters of Korea created KOCOWA TV.. I can fully understand the intention and the business point of view.
Still at least having the chance to get to watch Korean content with English subtitles (with the possibility to add other languages) is already not that easy on our continent.
So, I wondered after seeing that you are listed on the page for having a partnership with KOCOWA TV, I wanted to know, if you could go more in detail about it.
Eversince this news came out, somehow I waited for a statement of Viki but there is none.
I would really appreciate an answer of you.
For me it's not only about watching drama, it is the community at viki, where you can exchange viewers opinions and get to know the cultures not only of the projects you are watching, or working at as a volunteer to segment or subtitle. But also about the other volunteers or viewers. It's already saddening to see so many dramas being moved off and to let go of the translations that were done in so many languages.
Still understandable, nevertheless it is still hard to accept.
I have experienced a lot of issues over the years with viki, and I can remember well, when even Razmig Howaghimian did actually made contact with the volunteers. I miss that open side of viki. Now you get a lot of "stored text" it feels impersonal and indifferant at times. Viki's great virtue was a community that was making efforts for the page. It feels like this virtue is about to crumble. But that is not the topic of this letter.
So, if you could help out with some information about your partnership with KOCOWA TV, I and maybe one or two others from the viki volunteers would be really thankful.
P.S. I still find it kind of disturbing that you need to join a 3rd party in order to write comments at the viki blog. But this is of course a different matter.
P.P.S: Viki announced through a QC letter, that "on August 14th (SGT), we’ll be launching a new subscription plan called "Viki Pass Plus." So stay tuned till then!
