Agree wholeheartedly. While it doesn't affect me personally, I do hope Cdramas - China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, etc. - are made available on Viki. The trend is growing rapidly too, and more quality Cdramas are being offered. It would be a disservice to Viki lovers of dramas.
After all, according to Viki's marketing literature, Cdrama is one of the offerings...and since there are fans (volunteers) who are ready to power on, why kill this paramount concept of 'Global TV Powered by Fans'? And, why disregard the growing interests and love for Cdramas?
I really feel the pain for @rosemarynthyme when our team worked so hard to sub the drama, an awesome Cdrama. I was personally very discouraged with this Red Sorghum incident (among others), as well as other Cdramas that suffered the same ill fate of being taken down. All that wasted hours of subbing and moderating, etc...SMH.
So, while I agree with the dissolution of fan channels because I really dislike (hate! arghhh!) the efforts of subbing teams being wasted when the vids or channels are taken down. Also, it seems that Fan Channels don't run as smoothly as Licensed Channels (not sure if it's system or browser conflict, but I've personally been unable to watch/sub Fan Channels lately...)
However, I totally agree that Viki should up the ante and grab the C-wave as it crashes on the international shore. Get more licences for more Cdramas. If not all, then at least the current hot ones. If not the current hot ones, then at least the off-air recent or past good/popular ones.
Chinese IS the most popular/widely spoken world language (SRC: Infoplease)
To Viki and its management, while your decision has been made regarding Fan Channels, please don't stop there. Please go one step further and look into obtaining licenses instead. Your Viki drama fans are praying en masse, and are looking forward to good news.
