The Absolute Most Ridiculous Drama Backstories EVER

i think we all have found at least one unbelievably ridiculous scene in our drama histories, when the writers are grabbing at just about anything to explain a certain phenomenon. For me, this was one of the worst:
In Secret Life Of My Secretary, a secretary literally SACRIFICES HER OWN LIFE for a fish. Seriously, someone has to be really, really desperate to even think up such a ridiculous reason for a death! Her son grew up without a mother because of a FISH??!

I mean, most of the car accident scenes in kdramas are unbelievable, but this was just taking it waaaaay too far. Those writers must have had amazing excuses for not finishing their homework when they were in school!

Is this the same fish as the one you were talking about in another thread? That poor little fish that tragically died?

“Sorry teacher, my notes got stuck in an oyster!”

Haha when I saw this drama I’d seen a bunch of other stupid cliche things in dramas (I can’t remember which ones), but I thought to myself: “wow, these writers must have a group’s app or something, where they try to outdo each other with ridiculous plot lines .”

It’s not the same fish, but it’s the same drama (I told you, the whole plot revolves around fish :flushed:)

they take the competition REALLY, REALLY seriously!

OMG, there’s even more than one? :open_mouth:
I thought the whole drama was ruled by one single fish!

Is it worth watching?

Yes. Totallly. Despite the ridiculous plotline, the actors are really, really good and carry forward the drama very well. You can actually feel the chemistry between the OTP is REAL. At the beginning, it seems like the cliche grumpy boss-kind slaving secretary stereotype, but it moves away from it after a few eps.
BUT. THE most important reason you need to watch this is VERONICA PARK, one of the most iconic characters ever. Again, at first she seems to be the chaebol drama queen stereotype, but she really has a heart of gold and is the funniest, extra-est characters ever. In a way, she is kind of the main character in the drama, bringing all the other characters together. sure, the whole office-politics arc is kinda cliche, but on a whole it’s a nice light-hearted, fluffy watch. Both main lead and second lead couples are fantastic, and the ‘love triangle’ isn’t a love triangle at all, since he’s in love with the same girl (It’s about a cute little secretary who pretends to be sassy drama queen Veronica Park, and the main guy falls in love with both). Just don’t keep your logic hat on, and enjoy!:smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

You didn’t watch the drama? This fish was rare and super-precious, it cost thousands, and the president of the company adored it. She couldn’t possibly replace it with her salary, and she risked losing her job, then how would she raise her little boy?

(Of course she didn’t know she would die, she probably calculated that she’d be able to save the fish and herself, only it didn’t happen that way).

The way you wrote it, completely out of context, yes, it sounded preposterous and ridiculous, but in the drama it’s not ridiculous at all.

I did watch the drama.

the way she lunges to push the box away you can see clearly that she knows she won’t survive it. she made no move to escape after she pushed the box away. and in the end the rare fish gets sold and replaced and made no difference anyway.
did I exaggerate it too much?? I was really frustrated that she threw her life away over the fish(which the boss never saw again and no one noticed the replaced cheap fish anyway).

even if this was her thought process, if she lost her job, she could somehow do something, anything is better than dying and leaving the poor guy on his own!

Preposterous and ridiculous the story is; the fact is, she left her little boy an orphan; just to save a dmn fish! So she not only lost her job, her salary, and worse part of it all, she lost her life which was priceless to her, and that poor child. The dmn fish was replaced, but there’s a saying in my island that: ‘‘anyone can be a father, but no one can ever replace a mother.’’

I would never watch a drama with such absurd story plot. Senseless, useless (serves no purpose), and above all: ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!

I agree with you @vivi_1485 in everything you wrote from your first post and now

I really like the drama, though. This entire fish incident was created to be a reason for the happening of certain events. It’s not the MAIN plot, it’s like a sub-plot. It might not be to your taste, since the first eps deal with the cliche boss-secretary thing, but going forward I sincerely enjoyed the drama and the acting , especially Veronica Park who remains one of my favourite female characters ever. I started watching it for Veronica Park, but soon I found myself loving both couples too. It was a really fun watch, just that it felt like the writers exaggerated a lot to justify the ‘villain(? she’s not really a villain as such idk what to call her)’'s actions.
The whole drama’s theme is was to raise awareness of how bosses and big companies abuse the people under them, and how secretaries, drivers, etc. aren’t treated well, and not given basic rights and compensations. However jerky the main guy was at first, he completely atones for what he’s done and I ended being completely on his side as he struggled through his prospagnosia, so I have no problem with the drama as a whole. It even reached my favourites list.

That’s interesting to know that there was more to that ‘‘fish’’ story
(lol) and prosopagnosia too? Never heard of it before or if I did, can’t recall when

Prosopagnosia:***(a neurological condition characterized by the inability to recognize the faces of familiar people). I wonder if ppl. like that really exist, for I have not even read articles about such condition in humans.

So many themes in a drama is a challenge to see the main point of the story. I’m glad you enjoyed the drama and is on your favorite list (is funny bc I never thought of making a favorite list) Maybe I should, so I don’t forget about the dramas I liked, and can recommend them to others.

[Secret life of my Secretary]; the title doesn’t even hint a Fish would be involved in the story, that will cause the demise of a human being leaving a child without a mother. A tragedy like that so senseless didn’t even crossed my mind.

Oh, I need to ask; the secretary’s secret, was it the death of the fish? The guy that can’t recognize ppl/family? What was the secret? I’m not watching the drama
 lol

They do, there was once a documentary I watched and the man said after some years he could recognize his wife, but changes on the hairstyle or clothes on the same day sometimes still make it impossible for him to “see” her.

Thanks. I’m going to do search on (NTFX/YT) documentaries since they have zillions about different stuff and most of them are so enjoyable no matter how long they are or the theme that it’s about.
I just halfway finished a very long documentary about a guy that bonds with an octopus (female) after suffering from depression. The almost ending is heartbreaking bc a shark comes and eats the octopus and he couldn’t save it since is nature taking its course. The guy sobbed like a baby making me cry too! I’m avoiding sad things and was enjoying this documentary so much when bam! The shark clamping the beautiful octopus in his mouth (I stopped watching when the guy started sobbing). Maybe later on I’ll finish the rest.

no, no, as I said, the fish thing is a subplot. The main plot, is the secretary’s ‘secret’ life-- The boss’ mom fixes his marriage with Veronica Park(chaebol company owner). But VP falls in love with boss’ best friend, so secretary pretends to BE VP, because she wants to see how he treats a girl he’s interested in(since she’s his secretary he treats her like a slave). Since he has prospagnosia he doesn’t make out the difference. Boss falls for fake Veronica and secretary falls for boss.
Though there are some parts of SERIOUS cringe, I felt it really sweet that boss finally realizes that he loves fake Veronica because she’s like his secretary.

No secret
he had a clip put in his brain when he was a kid due to some disease he had. He gets into an accident, clip slips, damages area in the brain that controls face recognition. Thus, prospagnosia.
He recognizes nobody except secretary because she wears the same cardigan everyday.
