As for the CM requirementsā¦
Notice that it says āwithin the last 3 yearsā. So that means the older volunteers who didnāt get channels in the last years will get pushed out of the highest levels.
Iām a bit angry with the requirements. Like " Has managed at least one (1) short on-air series channel within the last 3 years" to get a āShort on-air series (less than 20 episodes)ā. That doesnāt make sense.
Also what about movies? I have mostly CMed movies. What level am I at?
I hope that at least the Help Center will start working since the last time I reported someone, they still got appointed as a CM several times.
Thank you for hosting the Spring-a-thon and providing such cute badges! For the next subathon, I suggested the sea turtle I look forward to the next event and what the next badge will be!
Also, congratulations to all the new graduates of NSSA! I look forward to working with you all in future projects!
Exactly, after all the times we have asked Viki to put an end to the unfair CM-selecting system, they have now done the exact opposite and officially decreased the chances of those who have been skipped for so long while ensuring the positions of the serial CMs because they gained so much āexperienceā in the past 2 years.
re: Selection of Channel Managers
If participation in the recent subathon of about 1500 persons is a good index of the number of active volunteers, what are the odds that one person out of 1500 was selected as channel manager 29 times in just the past three years? It is someone who has not even had a fourth anniversary at viki. If those opportunities were spread over 9 people in the past three years , 9 would be eligible for selection as a channel manager of an on-air drama under the new guidelines instead of just 1 person who has been favored.
Those who were ignored in favor of selection of this one person will never be able to be selected as a channel manager in the future, because we canāt recreate 29 opportunities. How many other blatant examples like this can be documented?
In my opinion, older active CMs with successful management have to be out of those new requirements for commonās sense sake.
Would make sense to teach a Math Teacher how to sum up?
We, volunteers, want a better Viki. Please, do act accordingly
Regarding newbies/returning volunteers/volunteers who didnāt know how to manage a channel and didnāt do well in the past for lack of guidance:
You, Viki, should select both the apprentice of CM and the CM mentor to make this process clear. Anyway, you will never add a co-CM as apprentice without approving it, so why do not directly select both and make things run impartially?
Believe me: Private messages can give you more tickets with complains to Help Center.
Also, in case they do not get along: this is the perfect chance to let them both show how professional they really are and how a community really has to run. ^^
Looking at the handful of upcoming channels in the Coming Soon and Project Finder, there doesnāt seem to be room for any CM anymore. Lots of shows have disappeared and hardly any new ones have been added since. The list of upcoming shows has never before been this short.
What, for example, happened to all the upcoming Hong Kong movies?
Is Viki preparing for the end?
I discovered this as well. I applied mid March for 3 movies and they have been removed from coming soon, no notice from Viki at allā¦ This step and the new CM rules leave me wondering what is going on??? Not sure if itās due to the paid subtitlers they are cutting costs?
And some Movies are crafted together from a BL drama episodesā¦
The paid subbers are an unnecessary cost. They had free subbers. And they probably would have stayed if the paid subbers hadnāt taken their jobs. They still have plenty of free segmenters, yet they choose to let the paid subbers do that too.
Iāve been reading your comments, guys (regarding CMs).
Soā¦
According to this:
It seems only very few people can be CM as per new rules.
@mirjam_465
Applicants must send the CM a DM asking for being mentored and
since it seems almost everyone must start from scracth, why bother providing a larger upcoming shows list?
LoL
Asking through direct messages to the CMs (Viki seems to have already chosen mentors when designing these new rules) is going to be the regular process, I think.
Therefore, thereās no need to show upcoming shows, I guessā¦
But I wonder:
Wouldnāt a NSSA academy for CMās be the more reasonable approach, then?
A side note:
Iām glad I was here before and only came back just for the fun. I was selected as CM 7 times in about 2 years and a half and I responsibily talked to Viki staff and gave away 4 of those projects because studying + work. The three I managed were successful.
Numbers and āstatusā never were important for me.
Why?
Because for me, even though Everyone is important here, the most important ones are seggers and subbers, because well organized teams of seggers and subbers would do a great job even without mods. and CMs. Just Chief Segger and Chief. Sub. would do.
Itās plainly evident: without segs and subs projects can never be done ^^
Have a Super happy week, guys! ^^
PS: Now I really have to stay away from discussions - too good to read, but too time consuming.
But in that case, we need more beginner-level shows. The current shows are far too hard for us reborn newbiesā¦
Youāre not the first one with that idea. @valneijr already suggested it a long time ago.
I would say, though, that the best solution would be for Viki to just have some faith in the community. Instead of trying to control every single detail, just give people a chance to work things out with their fellow volunteers. If the CM really doesnāt do a good job, they can always be replaced.
