Volunteers Leaving Viki

I have been on Viki for just a couple of years, so I’m not really the best person to do this, but…

I noticed that more and more volunteers disappear from Viki. Not because they’re sick of being here, but because there is no work for them anymore. Instead of celebrating all the time and effort they put into this, not a word from Viki, no thank you for your hard work that brought this platform so far and made it possible for viewers from all over the world to enjoy all these shows.

I feel like people shouldn’t disapper without a proper good-bye, without a (last) message or maybe sharing the story of their journey here with those of us who still remain here for the time being.

For those of you who had been here and are about to leave or know someone who has left, maybe this is a place to share with us how you feel. Use this thread, make your own, it doesn’t matter. Just don’t feel ignored and left behind. You did a great job, made Viki great with your efforts, and you deserve all the love and happiness in the world.

Thank you for everything you’ve done. You are wonderful.

Hello. It’s a pity but I think this thread is going to get more replies soon…

Some senior vikiers are still around checking messages here and there and trying to complete their last projects (I only have 1) but indeed there is nothing else to do from our end. This is going to be heartbreaking but it is inevitable unfortunately.

Sigh…
I personally started this volunteer journey 17 years ago. It was viikii.net back then in 2009. I really miss those times when the volunteers would do almost everything. We’d upload the videos (of acquired licensed dramas in order to start volunteering faster) viki’d replace the videos with the original ones later on. We’d segment, edit and translate them to different languages around the world for free.

It was back then by the fans for the fans :pensive:
I will miss Viki for sure!
See you around until another volunteer communitty appears on the internet.

P.S: Thank you all for your precious time, hardwork and commitment to complete the projects till the very end. You did well!. We all did well.

This is so sad… it’s like saying good-bye to friends that I don’t want to leave. I started segmenting in December 2021 and loved filling my free time on projects with so many new friends from around the world. I gained new skills, met new people, and was introduced to so many new things. I’m so, so, so grateful for the years that I was able to segment.

I’m coming back from my busy-with-life summer season and have found the project list so strangely empty, the discussions stalled, and so many friends “missing.”

I feel like my time here is coming to an inevitable end when my contributor status expires in 102 days and I will likely have no contributions to renew it again. So in case that happens… I just wanted to say what fun it has been to spend time with you working on the same goals and bringing quality work to the viewing enjoyment of these dramas that we all love so much. It would have felt so “unfinished” to just drop out of the Viki contributor network without saying anything. :sob:

I hope somehow and some way I can “bump” into you again sometime. Warm wishes to you all! And if you ever find yourself passing through Red Deer, Alberta, Canada (which is not a great destination in itself but is a great stop enroute to other places), pop in for a coffee or tea with me. I’d love to visit my old Viki friends.

Such a bittersweet thread but thanks @lucie_kristina_g for starting it so that we could have a place to post our farewells. :face_holding_back_tears: It has been a great ride.

As a member of a small language community, I still have older series to choose from, until the CMs leave. Once CMs leave, I will also be done for.
The whole situation is really depressing all around. I’ve been here almost 13 years and being discarded without any word just hurts.
I don’t want to see friends leaving, but they are given no choice in the matter. Once there’s nothing for them to do there’s no point to stick around.
I still stupidly hope that things change, hope that Viki will speak up and relieve our worries, but at the same time I know that if they really wanted us to stay, if they really cared, they would have said something by now.
I can only hope that one day one of the other streaming sites sees the benefit of experienced segmenting, editing and translation community who would work just for VIP membership and maybe some cute badges. They’d get a lot more viewers. Crossing my fingers. :crossed_fingers:
But till then: Thank you all for everything you have done in Viki. We’ve had some very messy times, but we’ve had a lot of fun as well. Thank you for working tirelessly to give the viewers the best viewing experience possible. You are all awesome. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
I’ll be missing the feeling of getting my hands on new awesome series that I desperately want to translate. I hope one day I’ll be able to feel it again. If not here, then somewhere else.
Sending you all love and kisses. :heartpulse::kissing_heart:

I am not a volunteer, but a viewer who has preferred watching on this platform for the translations and cultural context notes as well as the comments(most of the time. lol) It sounds like soon, there will not be any difference between viki and Nx as far as subtitles go? Is is all Ai and or pre-subs?

That’s a shame. Thanks to everyone who has contributed so much to my viewing pleasure!

I’ve been in Viki for 13 years. Every time I came to translate, it felt like I was walking into a crowded room. Life was bustling everywhere. People were translating, segmenting, editting, chatting, and laughing. But over the past year or so, that room has become a lot emptier. :smiling_face_with_tear:
I love translating, and it’s a shame that this opportunity seems to be disappearing. I hope as well that perhaps another streaming site will emerge that would like to use our experiences. I want to thank everyone who gave their best as translators, segmenters, editors and CMs and made Viki what it is today. It’s a shame that Viki doesn’t seem to value this nor do they offer any explanations. It hurts.

17 years!!! Has it really been 17 years? I’ve spent 17 years of my precious time on Viki, and it went by so fast…

Once viikii.net changed to viki.com, that was the beginning of the end.

Hi! I am a segmenter and a 5th level Sensei at NSSA. I’ve helped train many segmenters over the last few years. I’ve only been at Viki since 2020, when I moved to town, and finally got decent internet service and could stream shows. (I lived out next to a potato field, R U R A L ) :upside_down_face: :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

I am still around in the vain hope I might get a CM job OR a segmenting job, even if only to make segments for lyrics. It pains me that we are now told, DO NOT touch the timing or add segments for signs, etc. My ‘itchy’ fingers want to fix it.

It was a lot of fun meeting people all around the world and working on shows that we all like. I will miss you guys.

But as jobs and friends drop away, I will be here less often. I think if this drought goes on for a few months, I may give up.

Anyway! Good luck to you all! And maybe we will migrate to a new site!

Hello everyone, I started subbing back in 2019, I did subtitle to a small known language here (Urdu), i was so much active in COVID era and then after COVID, many people joined at that time, got to know alot of people. Now I do subtitle when I have a free time (i have a job and busy life) doing subtitling, it is something which I feel like I can never let it go, and recently seeing many community members go really hurt and this post seeing everyone saying goodbye in advance just in case is making me emotional. Will miss you all, we all did a great job. We will be around here till we can. Love you all.

I also know Viki since it ViiKii days, even when I just joined 10 years ago, after I was so done with no subs being there in my language.
I met great and sadly not so great people here and sadly also lost many good people / friends.
I hope, that even after my Viki Journey some are still “friends”.

You all did well, thank Y O U guys :smiling_face_with_three_hearts::kissing_heart:

seeing your name in this thread is like seeing a celebrity… both you and @kakashiandme . i’ve watched so many dramas on viki over the years and it’s so fun to recognize both your names in the volunteer team credits at the end of the last episode! thank you for all you’ve done, both of you. your work certainly made my drama-watching experience so much brighter

Like many of you, I have been feeling discourage more and more lately. I work for the Spanish language and since Viki uses AI for the translations, there is less and less for the volunteers to do. But what gets me more is that many of the series there is not Channel Manager or even possibility to work as an moderator, the accounts state that there are under Vikibot, which mean that they are going to change anything or fix any error for the serie. It really hurts, I started as a viewer, then as a volunteer. Viki is not paying for our services, they are lucky we are doing it for free. It is really sad that we have come to this point for many of us that have been here for years and have move heaven and earth to ensure the work was done on time and correctly for the fans.

I’m truly heartbroken that there seem to be no more projects left for us.

I have been on Viki since 2021, and throughout these years I have contributed with great joy to every project where I served as a subber, moderator, editor, and CM. I always gave my very best, striving to make my work worthy of the expectations placed upon me, and I would genuinely love the opportunity to continue doing so.

Through Viki, I made wonderful friendships and met volunteers from all around the world. This community became a special place for me, a place where I felt I belonged and where I could dedicate my time and passion to something meaningful.

It saddens me deeply that things have come to this. However, I still hold on to the hope that this is not a goodbye, but simply a “see you again.”

Thank you to everyone who made this journey so memorable.
