Guys, being honest, do you think Asia would produce a drama with a transgender/transexual character/theme?

Taiwan or Japan might … 
Thailand too.
Some dramas like this already exist, although they are unfortunately few and far between. Recently, the Korean drama Itaewon Class featured a transgender character.

Why, is there a mainstream TV-series in Europe or in America with such a theme?
Maybe one of the side characters, but surely not the theme of the show.
TV channels try to produce shows that will have the maximum audience, not something which will only pander to small minorities.
Films are a different matter, though.
There have at least been movies with that theme …
