I’ve noticed Cdramas like “When Destiny Brings the Devil”, “A Dream Within a Dream”, “Twelve Letters”, etc. all have Chinese Simplified subtitles yet there aren’t any Chinese Mods for these channels. I’m wondering if these shows are coming pre-subbed or if the subtitles are coming from subtitlers?
There are usually reference subtitles for the Chinese things. I can imagine that these are now also included as presubs and are not only available externally.
If volunteers create these subtitles, there MUST be a moderator on the team.
Otherwise, the CM and the Chinese moderator/subtitler who is not added would be breaking the rules.

Is it possible to still be a OL mod for the pre-subbed shows and make any edits to the subtitles if any?
Yes, it is, as long as the moderator has the minimum amount of contributions in the target language (Chinese in this case) on their name.
Since around May/June, all new Chinese shows come with captions. You can’t access them through the subtitle editor, which means they cannot be edited. It is redundant to add Chinese captions to the subtitle editor in new shows, and the version shown in the subtitle editor will not be the version available through the video player. Essentially, captioning is not needed anymore on Viki’s Chinese shows.
If you would still like to contribute, there are a couple different paths you could take.
- If you know Traditional Chinese, you can add those to Mainland Chinese shows. Or vice versa for Taiwanese shows.
- If you are interested, the NSSA Chinese TE program is up and running now, and you can sign up here. I actually think, you may have signed up already and so you should be hearing a response soon!

You can still be a Chinese mod for the shows from countries other than China.
