Comment section gone

I noticed today that there is no comment section under the reviews, this is on the browser??

I noticed the exact same thing. I refreshed my browser and everything, thinking that it was an error, but it seems like Viki has removed it for some reason.

The whole discord server seems to have been removed. We are using the discussions board for notes on segging on the drama I am working on… I wondered if this was new as I have been away for a month. Any news on it?

There was never a Discord server for the Team Discussion from the Viki editor. The platform used was Disqus and was replaced with Discourse, the platform used for this forum. As for the comments section from the channels, it was also on the Disqus platform, and maybe Viki will move it soon to Discourse.

As for a Discord server, there is only one and the biggest for all active Viki contributors: Viki Contributor Community aka VCC. We are waiting there all the active contributors.

This is the response I got on viki status on the x:

After careful consideration, Viki will be discontinuing the following features on our mobile apps:

  • Discussions on Channel pages
  • Discussions on Cast pages
  • Comments on Collection pages (both Viki and Fan Collections)

These features will be removed starting from version 25.6 on both iOS and Android mobile apps.

We understand that you might miss interacting with fellow users from the community, or sharing your thoughts on the shows you have watched. We encourage you to continue your experience through other platforms like Reviews and Timed Comments.

As we strive towards a better experience for users, we hope for your understanding and continued support.

Honestly this sucks! what I hate most about this site is the lack of being able to comment in a way where you can track comments and replies! I hate timed comments once they go out in a video it like throwing something in a void, no idea if anyone responded and can’t find the comments ever again! honestly what is the point of timed comments? writing reviews, I don’t want to have to write a review just to make a comment on a certain episode!! ugh what I hate most about this site is the lack of easy communication! illegal sites do a better job with comments this viki has ever done!! really come on Viki do better!!!

Thanks for sharing this Viki status post on X.

It doesn’t seem to be just on mobile apps. I don’t see “comments” under each drama channel on Viki.com itself.

I welcome more “Timed Comments” (though the downside is that we can only read TCs on PC/laptop and not on large screen TVs). IMO, encouraging viewers’ comments to flood the “Reviews” section of the “Reviews and Comments” section is, to put it mildly, undesirable. It’ll definitely turn me away from even reading “Reviews” on Viki. I’d go elsewhere to get “Reviews” that are reviews.

There is NO interacting with fellow users in Reviews and barely any in Timed Comments. Who the hell wrote this sh**?!

And while Viki is STILL, years later, trying to become NX ver 2.0 by removing the Comments section, Teleparty just introduced timed comments for NX viewers. The same timed comments which Viki tried to take down at some point.

These type of changes (making all platforms with Asian dramas looking the same) will not make viewers stay on Viki, or gain Viki any new viewers.

But repairing the watchlist which won’t update across all devices would.

Fixing site cookies would.

Buying licences for better K-dramas would.

lmao so now we can’t comment on something without leaving a review? i guess they want the reviews to be unreliable

Thanks for sharing this response from Viki. I was wondering what happened to the Comments in the Show Page. The removal of the Comments Feature is not only the mobile. Comments has also been removed on the PC website platform as well. I agree with you that this does not make a “better experience for users.” Obviously, Viki just wanted to eliminate the feature for other unknown reasons. It would have been nice if Viki had made an official announcement about the changes so people aren’t wondering what is going on or if they have a problem with their account. It is a terrible blo*w as the comments were a good way to share both information about drama schedules, changes, etc. and insights on an episode by episode basis. To be honest, I still greatly miss the Episode Comments pages, back when each individual episode had its own Comments section. V got rid of it and forced all discussion of drama episodes to the main show page.

I guess the only way to have discussion of episodes is to create a Page for a particular Drama here in the V Discussions. This would allow some tracking of comments and replies, as well as give you a notice when someone adds a posting. Sigh, it is very disappointing to see V getting rid of the Comments in the mobile app and the website.

I can think of one reason, since they used the Disqus platform, it certainly isn’t for free… perhaps the volume just got bigger and so the costs… perhaps since they removed/replaced Disqus on Team Comments in the Editor they quit Disqus altogether…

Your comment makes sense. I’m sure the decision to stop using the Disqus platform was a factor. I’m sorry that V decided not to replace Disqus with a different platform and keep the Comments Feature. The volume of comments was very large for some dramas, so I’m sure that you are correct that finances played a role in the decision to eliminate the Comments in the V platforms.

I thought disqus was a free platform though?

This was a great feature for most of us. We were able to share views and interact with fellow viewers. Sad, but ca they find another option for us in this space? Viki are you listening.

A long time ago I connected with a few friends through the Messages feature which can be accessed from V’s dot com site home page.
But you will need to know their profile name, ie @bagrantham_50 before you can send a message.

Click the down arrow and you will find the Messages feature there right under Account Settings & Profile

I don’t know how to post a new comment here, so I am doing this as a reply. I am missing comments terribly. It was one of my favorite parts about Viki . So many knowledgable people would explain nuances that I would have missed. I started noticing about a week ago that the chatter had severely dropped. Please VIKI, find a way to bring this back! Reviews are not the same as discussions.

yes exactly, if you have a question or a comment you actually need an answer to this was the best way!! so sad!

I was pretty disappointed to see the comment section to just disappear as well. Sometimes I looked at the comment section before I watched a show, it many times gave me a more accurate feel for what the drama is about then the dramas own description.

Agree. For me, too.

So true. So many smart and sassy viewers out there.

Exactly! Apples and oranges, actually.

Yeah. What a pity!
