Just remember Disqus being in the data security news often for being breached at least a few times and having data leak.
That is the main reason why I never used Disqus or sign up for it.
When they made the changes they mention very clearly that they would share your data with other companies and that is why I refused to sign up (they keep me out and I have no access to Disqus now).
I took a screenshot from a while ago @adrianmorales posted
I didn’t know this! Thank you!
At one point I did have an account, but I quickly realized it was not my cup of tea or coffee , and shortly deleted my account with them, not even knowing about their security issues
I found out what was wrong here. My AdBlockPlus.
I turned it off for these pages. Now everything is as it should be. But the question remains, why has it started blocking it now?
Most of the time it is an update that causes it.
Okay, things have normalised here and I can add comments under the channel again. How is the situation on your end?
Exactly. Yet when there’s a data leak and it affects “us, the consumers/users,” we have no way to prevent any ID Theft from happening to us, except to hope and pray that we are not the ones having to endure and resolve having our ID “stolen” by hackers or other bad actors for bad purposes.
I doubt it’s ABP. I tried to whitelist the site but it didn’t help.
I tried to sign in to Disqus but it gave me an error alert.
So I don’t really know what the heck is happening.
If I can’t comment or even upvote, which is the case for now, that’s fine by me. I’ll just watch.
When upcoming projects come on-air, and if I’m still blocked from Team Discussion which also uses Disqus, then that’d be really bad because it would mean I can’t contribute (to on-air projects) anywhere on Viki any further. If that happens (to many volunteers), well, not our/my loss, but Viki’s.
I sure hope it’s only a temporary glitch.
Time for my morning cuppa
Join me? Here…
No, ABP was to blame for the fact that I couldn’t see who I follow or who is following me
Is that so? Hmm… let me try again.
When you say ID theft… I only gave Disqus a “burner” e-mail address and a password. What sort of information could it possibly steal from me then? Okay, they could probably find out my IP if they wanted, and see which country I’m located in. So what?
Well, for a start, not everyone is as savvy as you are. Also, many are not at all cautious or even know how to be cautious when they participate in anything online. Moreover, an IP address is/can be linked to many other sources of info of each individual, probably more than we/I know at this point. I do know some folks, and I must add some of whom are tech savvy as far as I know, who’ve been through “hell” when their ID’s were stolen. There are many more hackers with bad intentions and harvesters with monetary objectives out there.
I am not certain but it seems that online users in Europe seem to be more protected than elsewhere because of GDPR.
I had no reason to use it, anyway. But if others like it and find it useful, good!
@bozoli
My “comments” dialogue box is available now. Yay! However, my followings and who I follow are still invisible on the “user profile overview” page, but are visible on the “contributor dashboard” page.
I must have done something right and something wrong at the same time lol Will just let the “glitch” right itself.
@adrianmorales
I haven’t used Disqus since I saw this, and I refused to sign the agreement a few years ago. I also noticed by the comments from others that they won’t have access to TD; if they don’t sign the agreement? I’m baffled by this bc is a way to FORCE ‘‘us’’ to agree to the terms, which seems a bit extreme to me.
I should have asked you for permission before using your screenshot; sorry about that, but I did mention you were the original author of the posting. Some ppl. sign things without thinking the consequences, and I did that with a site I wanted to watch dramas fully subbed in English, and started to get bombarded with porn stuff so when I saw this agreement forced on the ‘‘user’’ I knew better. Lesons learned.
Thanks for the screenshot since I wouldn’t know where to find it and show others what I was talking about.
A lot of weird things are going around since June when they announced that they would be working on some things here at RVIKI. After that, I had no reply button to make comments on drama (I rarely do so who knows how long that was going on).
I also never know when I left off my dramas so I have to be writing down that information. When I try to jump an episode bc I realized I already saw that episode, the thing closes down and I can’t jump to the other episode at all. sigh
Yes, it always is bc I never touch that button, but I went to check anyway/just in case, and is blue like it should be and autoplay button is on. I thought it might be that, but it wasn’t.
Thanks anyway!
OMG! My followings and who I follow are now visible on both of those pages mentioned. The glitch did right itself, or some magic touch was done by some Viki engineers. Whichever it may be, I’m thankful.
I think this “watch history” glitch has been fixed. I’ve just watched till Ep 19 of Red Shoes and my “watch history” registered it correctly.
I agree there are things going on that are ridiculously uncalled for. As for your “bad” experience, if you have evidence of such dishonesty, such as screenshots of what had happened, you should first try to approach this contributor. Perhaps there has been some kind of misunderstanding or a newbie contributor/mod/segger. If that doesn’t resolve the issue, send one or all of the Viki Community Team a PM (individual or group PM). Digital footprints from such activity/activities can be traced, and I’m sure some helpful soul would help you regain your rightful contributions. Try it.
