Extraordinary, out-of-the-box dramas

Me, too! Yo Seung Ho is definitely worthy of a proper SLS.

The ‘out of the box’ one for me airing now is deff ‘Heard it on the grapevine’ best script since ‘It’s ok’ can’t believe it’s not getting more interest, so good.

Snow Queen with Hyun Bin. A Thousand Day’s Promise. The Good Doctor with Jo Won
absolutely incredible. I also just watched A Gentlemen’s Dignity after having it in my favorites for about a year. Extremely witty, unexpected twists and turns, totally enjoyable.

A little heads up. Heartless City (aka Cruel City) has recently been uploaded to Viki and is in the process of translation! @jubri has already mentioned it above.

Even though its a classical noir series with a mafia theme, it’s also quite emotional and never dull. It has so many surprising plots and subplots, it was almost impossible to follow it all.

Wonderfully shot, wonderfully played, awesome soundtrack.

I don’t know that I have had enough experience watching dramas to know what is expected or unexpected, but I was pleasantly surprised by how effective “Heart to Heart” was. It can be difficult to demonstrate mental illness authentically, and H2H did it with so much heart. I also loved that the drama was okay with having its lead characters make unlikeable decisions. The male lead isn’t your typical jerk turned lovable n’er-do-well, but is as flawed and interesting as the female lead. I HIGHLY recommend.

Also, if you want a drama that will completely throw you for a loop in the best way possible, see “The Lover”. A bit more adult than the typical drama, but HILARIOUS and heartwarming.

It is one of my favorites. It is in my top 10. The acting was superb even the young and up and coming actor/actresses were great. They have both went on to other dramas too. Yes, this made me Yoo Seung Ho fan.

Yes, “Harry” was a very intriguing character. YSH just played the heck out of this role.

Don’t know if anyone else is still reading this thread, but have to list Late Night Restaurant as a totally out-of-the-box show. Each episode is self-contained. There is a set of regulars at the restaurant, and each week someone new comes in with a new story. So very well done. Also, recently finished White Christmas
a VERY different idol drama. The cinematography was exquisite
and it is a truely awesome psychological drama that you cannot guess ahead of or guess the ending to.
