French guy, looking for some community around

안녕하세요!

No I don’t speak korean, you can drop your hype now !
Well, I’ve spent sometimes looking for some sort of active community in Europe, more especially in France, so let me first introduce myself then, if you can help, I’d be really pleased if you do.

The name is Jérôme, I’m entering my 3rd year at the university next academic year. I’m basicly playing competitive video games such as LoL and SC2, I discovered korea through this, with the K-Spa and their cultur of optimizing the best for the better. Then I did also discover Korea through my courses, especially in Marketing which is apparently done in the same mindset, which is pretty awesome in my opinion since I’m studying it.
In addition to all these, I got a crush for a girl who was a deepfan of K-pop music, and that was basicly the turning point from keeping korea as a study subject to wanting to explore korean cultur.
Obviously, I’m not gone really far, since History isn’t my main passion, but I discovered and fast, first through the music, which is something I’m really interested in, and then I got a friend that told me to try to watch some drama, first I was like “This is for girl, why the heck do you advice me to try that ?!”, and then after just having watch a movie (Windstruck), the same way as the music, I just rushed into korean movie and serie cultur.

Actually I’d qualifie myself as a “newbie” or “noob” for this, I’m probably way under-cultured than any of you guys that will read this for korean pop-cultur. Yet, I’d like to meet people with who I can chat about that, since mine are just definitly not interested into this. And since I didn’t found any community group through google and facebook, I was wondering if you guys, might have some idea or options to suggest me.

so, what are you suggesting that you need help with? ^ ^ do you want people to suggest korean dramas (shows) for you to watch, or suggestions on music?

Hi, I understand what you mean, being a k-pop fan or a kdrama fan is something that most of our friends are not interested in, I wish we all the viki community could live close of each other, I have meet very great and valuable friends while working in subtitling dramas here, also you can try to find soompi forums and all kind of kpop / kdrama community and fans, just google kpop community or forums that is a way to start, also here in Viki we are a huge community always willing to talk and chat about all of our love for Korean Culture.

I agree with @niennavalar. You can start look around in the discussions here and try to find topics where you can talk about what interests you. As well like nienna I found great friends here.

Yeah I wish that too. It can be frustrating.

The community on viki is awesome and actually I didn’t check out other communities yet. You can adapt to the community here very easy ppl are very friendly :slight_smile:

There are a lot of kpop topics if you have a special group you like we have most of them I think ^^ and we also have topics about Korean movies. So you can just go and read through the topics. You will soon find sth you can share your opinion on. That way I am sure you will find ppl whom you can talk to about other things too.

First of all, thanks for the answers.
I was expecting the usual trolls that are the base of my usual community through e-sport but here, I could had even not prepared my guard that I wouldn’t have been disappointed.

b2utybubbles : well, you did forget the intro through the text I’d suppose, I’m looking for people basicly, not something that goes super deep, just to speak. My life is already well settled, so yeah we can say that I’m also looking for any advice from people, if someone has a favorite drama or movie or even music it’s for some reason, and this is what I’m looking for, what people do truely like and why. Sounds like psychopath doesn’t it ? ^.^

Niennavalar : Well I wouldn’t say I wish to live nearby tons of k-pop-cultur, it would be pretty weird for the french cultur here ! Sometimes it’s better to keep things in their places, even if you can’t reach everything that you would desire, at least you don’t pay a price to get a part of them, and I believe this is for the best. Also thank you for the tips, I guess I’ll stay around for a bit, even if forums are not my cup of tea and I often forget about checking them. I’ll try to find out others things as well according to your tip ! Thank you, for your help ! :slight_smile:

adelinna : Je me permet de te répondre en français ! Si je peux te conseiller, j’ai regardé tous les films où Jeong Ji Hyeon joue et qui sont trouvable sur internet avec les moyens que je connais pour pir… voir de façon gratuite des films sous-titré ! Je n’est été déçu par aucun ! Je te déconseille cependant ses premiers drama, ils sont vraiment vieillot et à moins que les regarder t’intéressent vraiment, je les trouve assez simple à appréhender (dans le sens où je n’ai pas ressenti de sentiments assez fort pour avoir envie de rire, pleurer…). Pour la filmographie, je te conseil Nautiljon, bien que le site reste amateur c’est une bonne base de donnée !

You know what ? Sometimes I would love to have someone with the same interests around. But in another way I love my own world my own interest and my own hobby. Something just for me :slight_smile: I know sounds weird but I love how everything is right now. My friends know about my interests but they don’t have to like it, I like the way it is right now.
