Furniture in Dramas

One thing I notice is that the furniture in the dramas of the wealthy or affluent in the dramas is old-fashion, conservative, European and a little overdone with carvings and embellishments. In the United States it would be the type of furniture your grandmother would have, but a little more over the top.

I don’t see either some type of Sinofuturism or modernity in furniture styles or some modern adaptations of historical furniture. If there is an Asian style object of furniture it is fully traditional.

It might be easy to dismiss the characters as nouveau rich. In the United States you would be thought to have more money than taste or even worse, what they call Texas rich.

However, it is always dangerous to apply one cultural context to another society.

I would be interested in other perspectives on this. Also, do other people notice this.

When I watch these films I notice aspects of culture which I think are as interesting as the story itself.
