I'm sorry but Timed Comments need to go!

Even though it’s a landfill of racism and bigotry and vulgarity, I said, “Live and let live.” Some comments are nice too.
The latest update, however, has put these nasty comments front and centre. It used to be an option hidden in the settings menu, but now it’s right there in your face. Why?! Why?! Why?!
There are no filters and there are no mods. Anything goes in this Mad Max post-apocalyptic wasteland, and it’s completely unacceptable!! I won’t stand still for these threats and usage of vulgar words anymore!!

Whenever you encounter something so malicious, you should report it immediately to the CM of the channel, preferably with the episode number.

As a moderator of my own language I have no idea if I’m even allowed to moderate comments.

You can also turn off the comments for your own piece of mind.

Yes, thank you very much! I’ll do that.

I found this one got an update, I sometimes wished one would know what the update is about.
But anyway, if you want to take action on vulgar or other comments not following the rules.
But this means you would actually do work that I would like Viki to take care of. I think, I did flag so many demands in reviews in the past month, that I can’t even guess the number. Demands are not a review, just like demands in timed comments have nothing to do with the drama, or say most of them. You actually can flag timed comments as any other vulgar message.

@bozoli : Yes, you can. On the dramas I moderate, I delete all timed comments in French that are insulting or with vulgarity.
I also once deleted on a drama, very vulgar English timed comments that had been reported here in the forum.

Could you explain to me how you do that?

@bozoli If you go to manage channel, you’ll see ‘Video Management’ at the upper right side. Click on it and you see all episodes and the option ‘Moderate Timed Comments’.

I asked to be a TC moderator for 'The smile has left your eyes, becuase it was really too much. Now I have finished it and I hope most bad comments are gone and people will not make new ones.

Checking TC is so much work… I sometimes check them right after I’m done with segging the episode and then there are mostly already quite a few comments with swear words, nasty remarks or asking for subs. 3 weeks ago I checked an episode of “Touch Your Heart” the day after and it took me more then an hour because:

  • Lot’s of people demanded subs
  • Quite a few people went against the sub whiners with nasty remarks.
  • Quite a bit of swearing for the actors/characters
-People felt the need to mention where they watch the ep on what time.
  • Some people mentioned BTS for some unknown reason
  • Some people got annoyed because someone mentioned BTS out of the blue.
-Some liked to chit chat in the timed comments
-Some posted the same comment over and over again.
-Some asked a random question unrelated to the Kdrama.
  • Some mentioned issues with Viki unrelated to the Kdrama.

Still have some checkin to do but no idea when I have time or when I get myself to do it as it’s an annoying task.

LOL!

Question. Where do we stand with curse words such as f***, b****, n***** etc.?

@bozoli
Look up there is the policy for timed comments and in there it says that comment policy applies there as well.
I think the comment policy got a little longer too.

Sorry, I don’t have time to do days of extra moderation. You can easily turn them off completely.

An intern could easily do this for the experience so to speak for free. Volunteers who specialize in translation, segmenting, and editing the languages of the world have a much higher level of skill than it takes to do this. In addition, the spam/ads trying to lure folks to other sites in the ratings and other places, cover pages, IMHO, an intern or 10 might be asked to work on all of this rather than press it onto us …as it does not fall under the heading of translating dramas.

It falls closer to the enforcement of the site rules and we have no teeth - as volunteers - really - to remove them. Only the overlords have this power.

IMHO.

Oh, absolutely! Viki should take responsibility for this, not the volunteers. I’m sorry if my post lay blame on any of you.

well, right now it seems we have to do it and if we are to do the really skilled tasks, this isn’t something many of us focus on. I used to do more of it, but you kick one person’s “c word” or nastier comments off and more ensue. also the where’s the subs, the other bs that pervades…very little is about the drama unless it’s misinformation or generally some derogatory remarks. the comments about the drama sometimes, if we are fortunate, show up on the ep pages and that’s a joy when people do this and share the drama together. At Ming Lan, we finally had people doing that again and…it’s awesome when we find a good and active discussion happening instead of merely random insults or where’s the subs. All I can say is turn the dratted things off, I do, I haven’t watched them because that’s mostly a situation of not being useful IMHO.

It is indeed a lot of work. That’s why whenever I did it, I would have an episode of a drama played in one tabblad and the page to remove the tc’s in another one. It was actually quite relaxing for me, because I cannot really only watch an episode and do nothing else. And this gave me the chance to not get distracted.

@bozoli based on context I usually delete those. I sometimes leave it when someone goes “The subbers are f***** awesome!” but most of the time it goes “that b***!” or “what an as*******!!!” and those get deleted. But also when someone goed “I want to kill him” or “that girl needs to die” also gets deleted when I see it.

I had to delete a bit here:

And here someone tried to make a BTS member relevant which caused some people go off which you don’t see in the screencap.

I’m not watching an episode and doing nothing else. I’m doing the translation and English editing. So I don’t have time to deal with the brutish nonsense on a second screen. Other browser pages have things I need to look up for translation notes to add and other items.

Yes, we all have different things that we do. And there’s enough choices for us on viki to select to do what we like/find important.

So, in the first example, what did you delete? 2nd and 3rd comment?

For the second example, I don’t BTS member’s names enough to moderate those comments
