Is there an American drama similar to Nirvana in Fire?

Is there an American drama similar to Nirvana in Fire in both genre and era?

Are you asking about a drama based on American history? If so, There was no America (USA) in the 6th century which is the era of Nirvana in Fire.

I haven’t watched Nirvana in Fire yet (and my knowledge of Chinese history is very limited), but the drama is based on a war between Northern Wei and Southern Liang.

In America (USA) there was a war between the Northern and Southern States (Civil War) between 1861 and 1865. But I don’t think that’s really a viable comparison. There are however, movies and television shows based on that era. If you’re interested, here is a list:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_films_and_television_shows_about_the_American_Civil_War

So, the Civil War (War Between the States) is the only historical event that seems remotely (in a geographical sense) similar.

I don’t think the Revolutionary War (between the American colonies and Britain) could be considered.

Hope this makes sense.

I would recommend “Dances with Wolves” which is closer to an epic western but the first film with a large cast of Native Americans speaking their own language and following their own traditions. Yes, it has subs. It the closest one I could think of that might give you the feel of Nirvana.

Set in America? Or simply an English speaking show produced in America? You would have better luck with shows made in America/United Kingdom but set in Europe.

You have to remember that there were no white people or black people in the modern borders of America ~500 years ago. So you would be looking at native american stuff
but you run into problems because there’s basically nothing to select from. Almost all native american themed shows are within the recent past (guns are involved).

Some English speaking American (sometimes British) produced TV shows in an ‘ancient’ setting before guns:

  1. Rome - set in ancient Rome, loosely follows the life of Caesar and then Augustus in season 2.
  2. Spartacus - set in ancient Rome, Spartacus is a slave who rebels against the Roman republic.
  3. The Borgias - set in renaissance Italy and about the fight of a ‘foreign’ Spanish family who has lived in Rome a long time. It’s about the politics of the Catholic Church and the fight to become pope and spiritual ‘leader’ of Europe.
  4. Vikings - set in Europe, main characters are vikings and deals with their lives, their raids and wars and stuff.
  5. The Last Kingdom - set in England, the opposite perspective of Vikings which is focused on telling the story from the perspective of the vikings. This time the perspective is from an English boy who was captured as a slave and defects after his adoptive viking family is massacred.

Now all these shows are going to have some degree of nudity, sexuality and violence so be prepared. Some will have a lot more (I would say of my list Spartacus probably has the most, maybe The Borgias with the least).

But like Nirvana in Fire? I would probably recommend Gladiator which is a movie set in ancient Rome. The theme is revenge.

yes dancers with wolves, and may I note was supposed to be a true story as well and no there isn’t really anything like nirvana on fire in that time era here in America 1. Boston tea party 2. sons of liberty 3 paul revere there were many movies on the revolutionary war as well as the war between the states, this one special “Maybe” and thatsGone with the wind. ,

there were some native american ones too, what about a mystery (Lost colony) not like what we are looking for of course. ok thats enough. hope you find what you are looking for. might could find some Mexican type stories Zorro???

I can only think of “Gone with the Wind” but it’s rather a love story and the certainly North and South, by John Jakes.
And I love this sad movie Dances With Wolves, but it could be closer to Tribes and Empires
