Have you watched “Go Ahead”? I’m a super kdrama fan (watching for more than 15 years), but Go Ahead still made into my top 10 all-time favorite shows
No, but I’ll check it out, thanks!
I have been noticing that lately as well. Not like it used to anymore. Even their rental movies are not interesting.
I looked up the Coming Soon for movies and some of them have really low rating… but they are probably on the cheaper side… Korean dramas got expensive as actors get more paid, and perhaps some productions cost more… because the market is getting saturated and other streaming platform are also investing in the Korean projects as I said earlier the cake is divided now in smaller portions and so that’s the problem.
Viki has on Coming Soon some really old Korean dramas now…
But after website interface change, I found it quite difficult to navigate for TV Shows, even if you go on Categories, the library isn’t even completed… since the removal of TV Guide and relying only on Viki’s notification (if you subscribe to a channel, some channel do not have this opportunity if channel isn’t “ready”), it has become cumbersome to search…
still wonder if they are getting ready to close the doors? its changed so much this past couple of years, and rentals? hey I pay them why do I have to rent, then as y’all said, no new dramas lately either, any of them, and just seems like somethings up.
Yes, I have noticed that Viki seems to be becoming swamped with romance. The new big hitting crime dramas of 2022/3 are not available in my region (UK) even though they are available on Viki elsewhere.
This is an older post, but at the end of 2024 it’s still a problem. I just pulled up all the recent Korean shows added and they are mostly old shows. And it’s not that new shows are not being produced. Go to the Asianwiki site…constantly showing new shows each month, but rarely do any see the light of day on Viki. It’s been a problem since Rakuten took over. IDK if they have so many holdings that they just don’t want to spend the money on Viki? Before RK I used to watch shows on Viki exclusively. Now I have subscriptions to NFX and ■■■■■■ and can go days without Viki.
It’s not quite the case, it’s because 3 Korean networks created a streaming platform Kocowa a small part is accessible through Viki in the Americas through Pass Plus.
Other dilemma is that all other big streaming companies have started producing these dramas since there is a great demand. So like Viki produces some content and shows as “only on Viki” the other platforms do the same.
Besides the producing and actor fees have incredibly increased, so licensing became also more expensive… It’s a rat race!
Yup I know about the MBC/SBS/KBS merger platform, and I have Viki Pass Plus. I know the cost of licensing a single drama too. We still have TBS and JBTC out there, but I stand with my original comment.
