Last Letters - Requiem for the Innocent Souls of the Sewol Ferry Tragedy

“If the people we love are stolen from us, the way to have them live on is to never stop loving them.” —James O’Barr

I like to write, and I usually find comfort in doing so. How is anyone supposed to write about a massive tragedy that could have been avoided, though? Anger, pain, remorse… I keep having these mixed feelings because I’m alive and these poor angels aren’t. When I was at my lowest point, I found solace in Korean dramas and music and just their awesome culture. I couldn’t give anything back, yet I received so much. All I have for them are these words. I hear words can be pretty powerful too.

The sinking of the Sewol wasn’t just an untold maritime disaster. It was a huge loss for all of us. Inside each of these children, there shone brightly an amazing human being, filled with hopes and dreams. They had the potential to become anything, including our next favourite Kdrama actors and actresses.

I know they’re in a far better place, but it hurts deeply because the world continues to spin around carelessly.

May they rest in peace.
