Are you Italian???
No. My mom learned how to cook Italian food from her friends and neighbors when she was growing up. Just like I learned how to food Filipino food from my friends and neighbors growing up. Make friends, learn how to cook.
My mom has a really interesting genealogy. Her ancestors did a whole bunch of traveling before landing in San Francisco. Portuguese from the Azores (not mainland), Irish, Japanese, Chinese, Taino from Puerto Rico, Mexican, Quechua (and Spanish) from Peru, Morocco and way back Bengali and Rajastani and also Esan from Nigeria and Luhya from Kenya. Then thereās me, throw in my dadās side - adds Bohemian, Swedish and German. Yea, What a mix that is! But no Italian. So to look at me, you see a blonde and youād never guess all the other ancestors I have. But you can see the ancestry in my extended family. I am the oldest in my family and for the longest time the only blonde. My mom would have all us kids with her on a bus and people would say, āWhere did you get the blonde.ā When a little kid hears that it makes you feel like you were adopted. and of course, my siblings would tell me I was adopted just to torture me. You know how mean kids can be.
BUT I AM NOT DANISH no matter WHAT that Danish director thought!
It actually can be very annoying to have to suffer peopleās prejudices. Because of my looks, Iāve been lumped into things I have no part of. When my son was little I lived in East Oakland by Eastmont Mall. One day, I was pushing him around in a stroller while shopping and this skinhead dude came out of nowhere and shoved a leaflet into my hand. I looked at him wondering who the hell he was. I glanced at the leaflet and disgusted tossed it in the garbage. It was a racist propaganda newsletter. Like what the hell? Distributing that in Eastmont Mall? Youāve got to be kidding and also suicidal. Was he looking for an ass whooping? That dude was a jerk. If he knew my ancestry and that my sonās father was from the Philippines heād probably choke. Matter of fact, I wish he would have choked on it.
Oh I can probably top you on the āannoyingā scale! Iām very artsy and out there. I tend to be the gathering person or they call me Julie the cruise director. No one does anything unless I get them to. I have a Supper Club we meet every few months. Do different themes. I am Irish. Born with Strawberry Blonde Hair but currently it is Purple, Storm Silver and I added blue in there for good measure last time.
My brother also tried to convince me I was adopted!!! Bahahahahahaha
Ooooo pretty hair. My 3rd gramma was a beautician and sheād have seasonal hair colors - Pretty pale yellow, purple and pink for spring and bolder colors for summer and red, gold and green for Christmas. She had a lot of fun with that.
Oh! My darned #2 sister! I have really long- calf length and a little wavy, blonde which I keep braided. My hair is not fine though. It has a lot of body. My #2 sister has my grandfatherās hair. dark brunette with tight curls with a tendency to frizz. Her hair has a lot of body but hers only grows waist length. My son has inherited my grandfatherās curly hair too. It was straight when he was young but now it is curly with a tendency to frizz. Oh! And they both tan. I donāt - I got the non-tanning Irish genes in that genetic dice roll.
So, one day we were shopping. I was pushing my son in his stroller and this lady says, āMy, what a cute baby.ā My sister said, āThank you.ā claiming him as her own. I just looked at her and said, "Heās MY kid! Not yours!> And she said, āNuh Uh! heās mine!ā Danged sister.
So then several years later, she finally had a girl who is light complexion with light brown hair and blue eyes. When we are altogether, strangers still think my son is hers and her daughter is mine and in some cultures, that would be true.
The one thing I am waiting for is my great-grandmotherās hair to pop in somewhere. I have her very long hair genes but she had that gorgeous blue-black hair that you rarely see anymore. My aunt used to tell me, āYou have hair just like MY gramma, except you are a blonde.ā Note: it was my Auntās gramma (possessive) It was not you have hair just like your great-grandmother.

Why does Vikiās officious algorithm constantly doubt the value of talking about food of any kind, especially given the history of how precious food and the ability to eat became after the Korean War?
I have found a YouTube channel owned by a couple from the tiny but apparently extremely blessed island nation of Mauritius, an island in the Indian Ocean with cuisine influenced by India, Africa, China. They live in Montreal; they are vegan; every freaking video has me saying, āI want that!ā
This video right here had me sitting up and taking notice because I love yogurt in everything, but itās been years since Iāve had a yogurt maker.
And this caught my eye:
And this also got my attention:
i vote eat the ribeye if that what i think is is ( ribeye steak yum ) i would totes eat that with some good rice maybe even coconut rice
I KNOW! and if you open a new thread, others scold you and tell you there is already a thread with that topic.
I guess I am obsessing about food more than usual at the moment because I had a tooth pulled today and cannot eat much at the moment.
Ironically, after being in the hospital in January and being forced to sleep at an odd angle in a bed that was too small for me, I chipped the tooth (and lost the filling) while celebrating my return home with just one Ghirardelli dark chocolate square.
It took waaaaay too long to get an appointment with an oral surgeon, but YAY. Now all I have to do is wait for phase two (getting an implant).
I have enjoying āSouped Up Recipesā for a couple of weeks now, but this evening EVERYTHING on this YouTube channel seems to be calling my name! There is not one recipe Iāve seen that looks less than YUMMERS!
