Segmenters, have you ever reviewed the viki subtitling guidelines?
I never stopped to think about this guideline:
“2. Timing to video
1. Subtitles should stay on screen for at least 10 frames”
How many seconds elapse for 10 frames of video streaming on viki?
Viki generally streams in High definition (720 p or 1080 p) on standard frame rate of 24 to 30 frames per second, the time elapsed for 10 frames on Viki is approximately 0.33 seconds to 0.42 seconds.
How much can our viewers read in 0.33 seconds?
For a reader of English, the average reading speed is 238-250 words per minute (Average Reading Speed (WPM) by Age and Grade Level) Some estimates of average reading speed are higher; some are lower. Compute: 238 words divided by 60 seconds equals 3.96 words per second. Multiply 3.96 by 0.33 seconds = 1.3 words
The viki segtimer audiowave uses a unit of 0.2 seconds. A segment which has 0.4 seconds would span two of those units.

The 0.4 seconds is the time span between the 00.00 (green line indicating cursor location) in the image and the first orange line, marking the start of a segment much longer than 0.4 seconds.
What feedback would your mentor in NASA Segmenting give you for cutting the minimum subtitle segment per the viki guidelines? ㄱㄱㄱㄱ Korean for lol.
