Since physical wounds can be seen, it is possible to treat them immediately and effectively. Mental wounds, however, remain an invisible threat. Simply opening up about such things is often rather difficult. Many people have needlessly lost their life because there was no one around with whom to share their tremendous mental burden. Suicide is not a choice. It is something preventable. For my birthday, I was asked to start a fundraiser on Facebook, so I chose the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline '1-800-273-TALK (8255). The work that they do is invaluable, providing relief to the many who are feeling low, especially during this time of year. If donating is not an option, then simply share the post with your family and friends. Please help me make 2020 the year in which everyone understands just how much they are loved
awesme Adrian, I didn’t see it. and yes to somehow be of some help. yes been there done that…
Happy Birthday and all the best for your new year
We have several of these help-hotlines here, also some with chat-help-option that were created for teens who prefer using chat. So whenever the media report about suicide they add the help-hotlines and pages below their articles so people who need help know where they get it.
PS:
Aren’t you living in Europe as well? And if so why did you choose an US hotline that’s for Americans and not Europeans? (just asking because most of the gaming companies are also only supporting US organisations even though their playerbase is worldwide and I think people should donate for the people in their own location instead of elsewhere because mental illness, depression, suicide isn’t bound to just one country and every organisation needs support in its country).
Is there another way to donate apart from Facebook?
I don’t use Facebook for payments.
Happy Birthday to you!
Lots of love
Thank you. I hope so. That’s my biggest wish.
Thank you so much for the kind wishes. I hope you have a wonderful year too.
You’re so right, these issues aren’t bound to any specific place. I chose this particular organisation in order to reach out to my online friends who are from the U.S. and beyond.
We have local donation campaigns too.
Thank you. I really appreciate it.
Yes, there is:
HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, ADRIAN! Wished I had a FB page but I deleted mine a long time ago.
I send this info to someone who said that didn’t know where to call bc she was having suicidal thoughts and she lived in Brazil. Hope it helps. You are so caring and will be blessed in many ways.
It’s a day dedicated to your birth, you; but you decided to dedicate it to others, people who suffer.
It’s really human.
I really appreciate meeting some people on Viki.
One of the best things or people I got to know out there:
We could be really different, have divergent opinions and live far far away, but through many talks and feelings, in the end, I realize “These people really have a heart and think of others.”
“They’re genuinely really nice.”
I hope this will never change! (Or even better, that we are more supportive of each other!)
Have I said how I was grateful the day you came on Viki? Because I am
Don’t go away!
Thank you for the link by the way! Got the email
He he, Thank you
It’s true, not many are familiar with these International hotlines. I didn’t even know they existed until I started doing some research a few years back. I just knew about 911, which my country and South Korea also use.
From the bottom of my heart, I truly thank you It pains me so much whenever I hear that yet another person, a kind person at that, has ended their life needlessly. It’s something that we can prevent, I genuinely believe.
Oh, thank you. I really appreciate it.
something came up on the news I thught interesting, #2 killer suicide worldwide, ages 10-16. yes we discussed older ones. But isn’t it nteresting, they put it as #2.
