Taoism, Homosexuality and the drama "Untamed."

The series “Untamed” is now getting some academic attention. My friend Hongwei Bao posted this in the Facebook group Queer East Asian Studies. He is a major scholar in Britain.

I have been boycotting the film because it represents caving into censorship, but now that it is a subject of scholarship, I will have to read it. My interest will be more in the aspectsof Daoism.

I am sorry, I didn’t see homosexual tendencies, unless you are referring to their closeness, so I don’t understand

The series is based on a BL novel which was censored to some extent as is explained in the article in this post. That “Untamed” is a censored work is generally known by its movies fans. Mydramalist has even adopted a standard tag for this type of censored work now, “Censored Adaptation of Same-Sex Original Work.”

However, like you, while watching it, I am not seeing it as very gay at all, though I can see that for the persons that read the novel they would interpret some scenes differently.

For me I haven’t watched any of these new censored dramas and it severely censored. If you didn’t know about the novel I don’t think you would pick up on the story.
