[Viki Community Team] New Profile Page Experience Announcement

@brendas

Thank you for paying attention to this issue in the ‘‘about me’’ section. I was able to delete what I wanted to have deleted in that section.

Enjoy your weekend.

Here are some more examples of the About me pages being messed out. Typically table cells are squeezed so that the proportions get messed up.
This is my own About page as seen from the html editor. The sizes of the cells are equal (all the pictures have a width of 200 pixels and they determine the width. That’s also why I put a placeholder picture saying “new” on the empty cells, ready for my next projects):

But this is how they look to a visitor of my page. The pictures are all narrower - some more, some less:

And there’s nothing I can do, since they show up correctly in the editor, and all the sizes are equal.
The following examples, from other people’s pages, are even more extreme in the squeeze effect:
Viki Contributor Community and Viki Contributor Community

The last one, Justine Desmoulins, is also a very notable cover page designer here, and her personal page very carefully made, so it must be even more frustrating for her. See how text is missing from the right column of her table. Viki Contributor Community

This is because you have specified a predefined width. You must specify ‘with:100%’, otherwise the system will compress the size to your predefined size.
I don’t mean the size of the images, but the size of the table.
The best way to change this is to use ‘Source’ and change the width there.
ATTENTION, copy the source code beforehand and save it somewhere else, if there are problems, you can at least paste the old code back in afterwards.

The problem at Justine’s About Me is also the specification of the width. The system only executes what was set as the default. With width:100% it is displayed in such a way that it fits on 100% of the possible page.

I probably didn’t choose the right technical terms, but I hope you understand what I mean.

I just did this.
I changed - from Source - the full external table of the Projects section and the two first internal tables (Coming Soon and Current) to 100%. It didn’t make a difference. Then I tried going from “outside” - not Source - and right-clicked each table, choosing Properties from the menu. I found that the width was not changed! So I changed it again in that little window. Only then the change was registered.
But now there was too much space between the pictures, didn’t look good, so I changed 100% to 85% so they would be more close together.
Now it’s like before.
But all this messing up happened with the recent Viki tampering with our About pages. Before, even when the width was set at 750px, they looked fine.

Thank you for telling me this. It may be useful for other people as well.

I still would like to have back the mail jcon at the coming soon page. It’s getin on my nerves to go to the dashboard (which is useless for me) just to see if I have mails in my inbox. I never knew if I have mails, when I don’t go on this page.
So is there a chance to get this back @brendas

Oh, my dear Netty! :frowning: That must be a bug! I still can see if I have messages on other pages, as usual :frowning: I hope it can be solved soon :heavy_heart_exclamation: :hugs: Take care and happy weekend! :cherry_blossom: :cherry_blossom:

Dear Netty, your idea is absolutely Awesome! I’ll go for it ^^ Have a very happy week! ^^

P.S. Sorry, I had to delete my previous answer since those suggestions (including yours) are now together on an open topic so everyone can give their opinion freely or even bring forward other ideas not for profile only - as this topic - but in general.

Be well! :cherry_blossom:

I have shows to work on. But I think I lost my NSSA badge images… I’ll have to dig through my drives to see if I have copies.

Oh FOUND THEM! I did save them! PHEW! Ok… I can rebuild my page. one of these days! But I still need to find my graduation badge…

Can I edit my profile now? I’m scared, that something will disappear.

Thank you, Brendas, for your response.

I have been waiting for your notification. But unfortunately, it has not been restored for me.

Oops, starting again to make a profile from scratch is uphill… But I’ll give it a try.

Thanks!!!

Regards :kissing_heart:

Good question. I don’t dare to start. I’ll wait a bit longer. :+1:

Hello, @brendas! My About page was zapped when I tried to open the edit function last month to update it with my more recent shows. It was not fancy, but it did contain my NSSA badges and the list of my work. (some 300 odd shows) It has not come back.

I have not bothered to rebuild it because it took a long time to fill the shows in. And, I am afraid it will disappear again.

If my about page can be recovered, I’d appreciate it. Thank you. :innocent:

I am waiting for the rebuilding since March ³th and till yet nothing. They wrote me it is rebuild and closed the ticket. I looked into and lol… Maybe 5% from the whole page is there. Another ticket and another and since then I am waiting.
In this time I could have make it again, but it’s a lot of work… I am here since 2017 and now it’s 2024… You can imagine how long my page was and how frustrating this is.
