Hi!
French moderator on one of my channels just reached out to me saying that a user named romnel_bunoan_941 has filled in all the empty subs of my show and the next season of that show making her and her teammate from halting the work. When I received her message, I assumed that abuse might’ve happened and after checking I wanted to delete the subs and report to Viki. So I went to the channel and checked the activity and recent subs were written by this user and I checked the profile to see it has a staff badge. And I immediately checked the activity on the subtitle editor and nothing was recorded. I checked season 2 and it’s the same. Nothing was recorded on the subtitle editor activity page. So I decided to write here to let everybody know. Without any notice how could Viki do this? Do I have the right to delete the subs to make the job easy for my moderator? Bot subs are definitely awful to sit and edit. @vikicommunity@brendas@giant_sean
Could you please give me an answer regarding this?
It makes me think of this situation we went through back in 2019. Seems like Viki didn’t change…
We told you back then already you should contact the team to know the situation before doing such things, but once again, you didn’t. And this time you didn’t even message the team to let them know you were filling episodes.
The subs you added aren’t good. It would be losing time and demotivating volunteers who are active on these projects.
I even noticed on one of the channels, only some random episodes were filled, not even in order. What’s the point? @brendas@vikicommunity
Could you do something to stop doing such things… You’re only driving away volunteers by doing that. It has never been and will never be helpful.
Thanks Padma.
How can we make understand to you, Viki, the subtitles translation is not possible with a bot ? Do I have to explain the difference between french and english again ? Do I have to explain that i spend my time to choose the best term that will be found throughout the project and that your bot will translate in one way then another without any coherence?
The french community don’t stop to tell you and it’s the same for the other languages communities.
I would have appreciated to be informed to your decision instead to discover while preparing the opening of the episode by researching the precise lexicon of medicinal plants whose translation by the bot made me laugh.
Editing will be a nightmare. Thanks you very much.
Hi everyone. How can I tell you that it is not correct and desirable to supplant volunteer translators who master their mother tongue with robots who only rely on lexicons and approximate expressions that must be corrected ? Without warning, they translate series by the kilometer which are only of interest if the viewer recognizes himself in his mother tongue to be able to appreciate the spirit of cultures other than his own. However, going from an original language to English, then from English to French, already represents a big distortion compared to the initial text. If a prefabricated translation still distorts the original version, we will only be left with images to fully appreciate the productions offered by Viki. Furthermore, it’s a lack of respect for everyone who worked on these series (director, actors, writers, etc.).Think about it.
I’m also a victim of this “bot”. It came by surprise on one of the moderations I’m working on. All my team is active and is working each week on 3 épisodes. How is it possible too “steal” our work like this ? This “bot” came last night and completed 2 episodes. Then, I have to say that our team has already completed 36/40 episodes. So, do we need some help to finish ? This “bot” completed 2 episodes… Then let us the 2 last episodes of the show. We don’t need this kind of intervention. Please, you’ve made a massacre of our ost. So we have to edit this kind of work ?
Ps : the strange thing is on my dashboard > it doesn’t show that those 2 episodes are completed (by this bot). It’s always at 36/40 completed while when you watch those episodes they are 100% subbed. Please don’t mess with my dashboard when our team will finish this project !
@iria360 It seems like there are issues with the dashboard.
I also have a problem with it since more than 4 months now on which help center staff said they are “investigating”, with a drama completed since 2017 (“My Mr. Mermaid”).
They closed 3 tickets I opened so far saying they would give further information later while they’re still “investigating” it.
All episodes are 100% subbed but showing as if none are. They kept giving excuses like “It’s not fully subbed” “There are missing segments on some parts” which are not true.
After I sent them screenshots of every episode, showing them all the things they were saying were not true, they only said “We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to resolve this issue affecting you. Rest assured, we’ll keep you informed as soon as we have a concrete resolution.” and closed my ticket, after more than 4 months trying to get this solved.
Now it’s been almost one week since they “solved” my ticket but nothing changed in my dashboard.
First, awful pre-subs and then that. Frustrated isn’t enough to describe my actual mood.
That is such a disrespect of our job. We work hard to do the great job, in respect of both viewers and cast and crew of our projects. All is screwed because of easy money, then ?
On my dashboard, i haven’t no more project. However, I indicated on this project, the episode have been translated by a bot because they aren’t not ashamed to say that these subtitles are those of our team!
Hi @padmalayag and everyone - We have sent a message to our Operations team to learn what may be happening. Appreciate your patience until I can find out and share. Thank you!
Oh, we’ve got a Hacker in Operation Special Warfare!
@romnel_bunoan_941(Romnel Bunoan) has just completed all the episodes on our drama. We still had 7 to translate. What happened? Nobody contacted me to contribute!
After double points for the Translation editor role, maybe we could get triple points for editing the bot’s subtitles?
I’m the moderator of a 70-episode Chinese drama. My team had almost finished the translation, there were only 5 episodes left, but the bot translated them all.
I feel like I’ve been robbed. All the effort and satisfaction of completing a project reduced to nothing.
May I put an example of this wonderful translation on my moderation ? >_<
Ep 37 segment 44:11 :
English version : ♫ A passerby’s simple turn ♫ ♫ Set a sea of peach blossoms in motion ♫
Bot version : ♫ Qui est passé, la pomme crabe tombe en tournant ♫
Real French version : ♫ Un simple passant créé une mer de fleurs de pêchers en mouvement ♫
Oh my ! This “peach” in the English version became an “apple” (pomme) in the bot version ; where is the “crab” (crabe) from the bot version in the English version ? ; some words are missing : maybe they are not usefull for the bot version.
J’ai apporté ma contribution à ces revendications en envoyant un MP à ce cher Romnel.
I have made my contribution to these claims by sending a PM to this dear Romnel.
I laughed well I’m waiting for his answer. Maybe a shadowban, who knows !
The same problem in ‘The Investiture of the Gods’. All the episodes have been translated in french today by the “bot”, but the English edition hadn’t been done after episode 32 and I was just finishing translating episode 31.
I think I’m going to add myself and all my translators as a translation editor to correct these horrors with two points.
