@mirjam_465 ,
Thought you’d find this of interest.
I recently started using Duolingo for Japanese, Spanish and French. Anyone else using the app?
I used to use the website, but it has changed a lot. On the free version, you now have to wait for a day or so to go on after making a certain amount of mistakes and the cookie settings nowadays take so long to load that they crash my computer. It’s too bad cause it used to be fun and it is actually the place where my interest in Korean began, which eventually led me to Viki.
Since I am enjoying the app so much, I was considering getting the paid version but I think I will continue with the free version. The way I see it, having a limited number of mistakes allowed actually makes me more careful and focused. The ads definitely are annoying but they also give me a chance to take a break away from staring at the phone screen for a prolonged time. My daughter’s boyfriend who is a Korean but is not fluent in Korean language has over 850 day streak on it. He and I have already done a Friend Quest together. I think it’s a nice way to encourage friends and family to learn a language.
yes good to know, read this@ https://www.snsinsider.com/reports/online-language-learning-market-1260
I started using it late last year to begin learning Dutch. I haven’t had as much time to put into it recently, but I have been enjoying the app version. From a tiny bit I have heard from other users, the desktop version seems to have more detailed learning, but I have never used that. I have to use my own deductive and research skills to get more details about specific grammar rules, for example.
Hi, I speak German and a little school English. If I have to write something in English, I always do it using Google’s translator. I would like to speak other languages, but I find it difficult to remember new things, so I don’t do that, but I’m still getting along well as it is.
Very interesting tipic.
I’m from Italy and live there since I was born.
I’m bilingual italian-slovene and I’ve learned english at school.
Have a nice week-end
That is pretty awesome. Did you gain some of your intended language skills in the meantime? I love to look into cultures and languages but I am not that skilled like you are.
Born in Germany comes with my mothertongue German and fluent English is also a given. Had have Frensh lessons for 3 years but no experience to actually spek Frensh so I lost nearly all my skills there. Then a few years ago I started Finnish but did not succeed at all. Had a lot of excuses but no good reason for my failure.
Speaking of my current state of mind I am highly interested in learning at least one Asian language. Yet it is difficult for me to decide which one. As for Taiwanese I recently learned that there are so many different dialects and Mandarin is the official language. Korean and Thai are also very interesting and as for Japanese I could practice with someone I know.
I am honestly having a hard time making a decision but planned to start within spring time next year.
