I tried to log onto viki today for a second time. I intended to work on a drama for which I am Chief Editor. I got a strange message: " Oh no, it’s jammed! Error code: 429 (too many requests)
You’ve sent too many requests to us recently. Please try again later. In the meantime, try out other features that Viki provides:"
I tried three different browsers and concluded my internet address was flagged. I looked up the error 429 on reddit and it explained suggested using to a hotspot. I did use my phone and successfully logged in. So if any of viki staff are monitoring discussion, please unflag me so I get back to my volunteer work!
I think it’s rather a bug in Viki’s system. A lot of us have had it at least occasionally, on Discussions as well as on every part of the main site. Sometimes, refreshing helps; sometimes, nothing helps.
I sometimes have it the very first time I log in that day so the “too many requests” is complete nonsense. And I’m definitely not using a hotspot.
I’ve also occasionally had it on public computers, which might be a bit more prone to these bugs, though I doubt there would be any other people in my local libraries using Viki.
I had this bug yesterday. I had to switch my PC from cable internet to Wi-Fi, and after I managed to log in, I switched back to cable. Instead of Wi-Fi, you can also try the Hotspot with mobile data. The thing is that you must have a different IP from the one with which the bug occurred.
This happens intermittently to me over the years. What I did was refreshing, rebooting or clearing cache. And it’s resolved, may not be instantaneous though. So far so good
To all! It’s strangely comforting to know I wasn’t the only one with this error message when I knew I was logging in only for the second time that day.
