Error with the Video Player Again?

Hi! Does anybody else get: “The media could not be loaded, either because the server or network failed or because the format is not supported.” when trying to play a video on the video player?

I was going to do some subtitling this morning, but I can’t seem to reach any of the videos on the drama I’m working on. I saw this error message before a couple times some time ago, but it always went away after a single refresh of the page and I assumed it was because of the Wi-Fi going down or something at that point. However, today it seems to be persisting. I tried to play other dramas as well, but I’m getting the same error message everywhere. It gives me the Viki logo before playing the episode and then that error message comes up when it tries to play the video. I also tried on another laptop and switched my Internet connection to my phone hotspot just in case any of these were the problem, but it’s still doing it. I thought I’d come and ask if anyone else noticed something with the video player today. Is anybody else getting this error or something similar or does anybody know what might be going on?

Yes, it happened to me too.
However, if you can access Subtitle Editor, that works.
For instance I had Subtitle Editor open last night because I was editing a drama episode and went to sleep leaving the tab open, and today I could access it without any problem.
Also, you can access the editor from the thumbnail if you click the little pencil. So it’s not the editor in itself, but the video player that has a problem.
If it’s a drama, you have thumbnails, but unfortunately the one I wanted to access today was a film, so no thumbnail (and, as we all know, you cannot access the main film’s Subtitle Editor by the trailer’s Subtitle Editor).

Thank you so much for the work-around! I didn’t even think of that. If anything, I can at least get my subtitling done for the day. I do hope they resolve it soon, though. Maybe it’s an extension of that “429 error” that a lot of people were getting? I know it was a pretty recent problem and this seems to be a bit similar to that, like the network is possibly getting too many requests. Although, my knowledge on programming is pretty minimal, so I could be way off and it could be an entirely new thing for other reasons.

Bonjour, j’ai ce même problème sur mon PC ce matin … Impossible de regarder une série avec ce message :
Video Player is loading.
This is a modal window.
The media could not be loaded, either because the server or network failed or because the format is not supported

Avez vous une solution ■■■ ? Merci

Hmmm, it seems a lot of people are getting the same error message. Perhaps the network is too congested or there’s some kind of problem at the moment? I know a while ago everybody was getting this other error where it wouldn’t let anybody on the site at all and a while ago Viki staff said they were working on it. Perhaps this has something to do with that and it’s some kind of side-effect as they work on it? That’s my best guess, at least. If it isn’t resolved soon, perhaps we should send a help ticket to let them know.

@gornicay_426 The above reply was meant for you both.

I tried this too. I deleted my browser history etc. of the last 7 days and it worked again!

Full clearance of the Cache including cookies and saved data took care of the issue on Firefox. It will log you out of websites, such as Viki, but still has the username/■■■■■■■■ stored so you don’t need to type it all back in again.
This should work on Chrome, as well, though may not if you have a third-party Chrome version. Those versions tend to lag behind Google on updates. If your Chrome doesn’t work after clearing the cache, then I suggest downloading Firefox and using that until your chrome version gets updated.

Did nothing but taking a long lunch break (3,5 hrs) and working on some other stuff.
It’s working again.

VIKI people should take notice, no one can access the video player. Very annoying, unable to play any series.

Can’t load anything :sob:

Came here because I was experiencing the same issue.

Edit:
My browser is up to date and I also tried the remove cookies & cache option. Didn’t help…

@brendas
I know there a some open complaints at the help center, but maybe you can pass the info of this thread.

Back with the old problem, but another variant - It tells me to update my browser, when my browser already is. No next break …
Wow, in the passing 6 hrs I edited 20 minutes of an episode, …
At least for today this is it, have some other things to handle.

Btw Win 10 - laptop - mozz firefox 116.0.3

edit: after another 30 minutes - now it is back to could not load - server network failed

I am trying to watch video. What a bummer! ■■■■■■■ works so will probably try to go watch the rest there if they have it. First time this happened. I am a Viki “fanshe” but really want to know what happens next in Joseon. Haha.

Same here. Around the same time you posted this, it was working again for me, even though I did nothing except for waiting. However, I just checked again and it’s also gone back to the error for me too. I’m guessing something is happening to the site at certain time periods since judging by the answers in this thread, the times it worked for me and the times it didn’t seems to match up with what you and others said.
