Grammer correction

Hello. I was born in England and taught what my mother always called “correct grammer”; It is in my blood. I CRINGE when I read the wording on all of the shows I watch. Especially when the wording is incorrect. Wish I had saved one of those ‘bloopers’. For example, instead of bare (naked) bear :bear: was used. Things of this nature. Next time I come across one I will copy it down and send another message. I would so love to help in this area. I am retired and have plenty of time.

So did I when I saw your spelling of the word grammar.
Anyway, subtitles may contain errors and there are reasons for that. First of all, English, Portuguese, Spanish, and French subs are never made from scratch by the volunteers anymore. All shows come presubbed with at least those 4 languages and the quality differs per show. The volunteers do edit them, but you may have watched shows before the editors got to finish their job.
On the other hand, some errors may just have slipped their attention because they are under a lot of time pressure.
Another thing to keep in mind is that on Viki, we use American English, which might result in some weird spelling or wording from your perspective.
In any case, the volunteers here are working very hard and the next time you see an error, the right thing to do would be to check who the CE (Chief Editor) of the show is and send them a private message about it.
And if you really want to help out, message a CE and ask if they would be willing to train you. That is the way to get in. No matter how brilliant your English may be, there are still things you need to learn about the way we work.

I thought that the typos and spelling mistakes were only happening in Spanish. I mean, I cannot believe that a machine misspells verbs and other words that have a certain writing. I can believe that the presub would have maybe wrong translations or so: but, the typos and misspelling come from rushing the process of revision or translation. It is very sad, because it makes me think that the poor quality of Spanish subtitles (and I mean the spelling) will at some point make me change to a different language.
