Hello! I’ve been using the subtitle editor for a while already so I’ve figured out most of the stuff. I still sometimes stumble into questions and right now I happen to have one question I can’t find an answer to. I didn’t find anyone else who already asked this either. I figured that I could make a new topic, not only to get my question answered, but to also make a thread for other people to ask questions about the subtitle editor, because it sometimes is a real mystery!
My question is, how do you leave a segment blank but still make it say that you’ve done 100% of the subtitles. The segments that I’d like to leave blank are in the last episode with the credits. The English subtitles list out all of the other language moderators so they needed multiple segments for that. In some of the other language’s subtitles however all of the moderators aren’t listed so I thought I should do the same. In some way the French subtitles had managed to fill the blanks with a blank, but still making it look like all of the segments were filled. And now I’m wondering how do I do that too. Because I’d like for the last segment to also state that it’s 100% complete.
I’d appreciate every answer! Also like I said in the beginning, feel free to also leave your own questions about the subtitle editor/how does subtitling work!! I’ll probably anyways be wondering about that too.

You can just try to add extra credits in such a scenario, something like:
“Thank you to our viewers for watching XYZ.”
If not, then you still have two other options:
You can either add italics tag to the subtitles — <i.><./i> or you can use the blank/invisible character — “ ⠀”
I do not recommend either of the last two options, because it will leave a black outline on the video player, i.e., since the subtitle will be invisible, just the black background of the subtitle will appear on the screen.

mean in the subtitles to translate mean? what should I do?

In the Subtitle editor, you can see the “Shortcuts” and “Tutorial”. Those might help you a lot.

hi! a real rookie here. since you’ve mentioned that you are a subtitle editor, can you please tell me how to apply for it? i’m seeing the options for becoming a subtitler and a segmenter but none for becoming an editor. T-T

It depends on which language you want to edit. Main languages (English, Portuguese, Spanish and French) usually require that you’ve been through some training. However, the GE/CE Academy just closed so I’m not sure how this will work in the future. There were some experienced senseis who seem to be willing to take students (it’s quite a recent topic here). You can also send a message to the translation editor or chief editor on the show you’re interested in, and ask them if you can help or if they have any tips for you how to become an editor.
As for other languages, you’d need to contact the moderator of your language. That’s the person who manages subtitlers and editors in their particular language.
What most people might say to you is that you need to gain some subtitler experience first. This way they can evaluate your work and you get the chance to learn the rules and the formatting.
