Practice English General Editor skills re: breaks

Read the Viki rule regarding breaks https://contributorhelp.viki.com/hc/en-us/articles/32675659461523-Viki-Subtitle-Guidelines and then determine whether the rules have been correctly applied in any of these subtitles:

These are examples from about 15 minutes of an episode.

Are these pre-subs?
It is well-known that those professional subbers never read guidelines nor rules. They know rules from their previous jobs and follow those. They have probably never been told by Viki to read our Team Notes, and obviously Viki didn’t think to tell them to read Viki guidelines either.

I have come across staff subbers who did read our Team Notes…

OMG!

As if the pre-subs are not bad enough, they say this in the guidelines:

Me too. Once. After that, never again.
(Not that our Ko-En subbers, did either, mind you!)

There are a couple of paid chinese subbers that actually helped with team notes and read them, but this was when we had Chi-Eng pure subbing. I was very appreciative of them because team notes take forever!!!

Note: A space is always required before the <br> tag.

This note is violated at every title except one title, I neglected all other rules for simplicity.

Not necessarily before, it can also be after, it’s exactly the same thing.

Regardless, they never put a space neither before nor after.

Why is there this note in the Guidelines?

Viki staff doesn’t know exactly how we work. There are some things that need changing. In reality we enquired and it seems that some apps don’t “read” our break html marking, so they show everything together, with no space between the two words. Therefore, if we want a space, we should put one too (apart from the br marking). Whether it is before or after makes no difference whatsoever.
