They use a flat tip on the pastry bag! Some people are just so talented!
OOOOHHHHHHHHHHH, wish I could be a bit talented!! I mean the cakes and all. I had some of those flat tipped ones along with the other ones, when I was taking a cake decorating class. have no idea where they are at now.

I really do not understand why there is so much more fuss over K Pop stars releasing songs in English over other languages, like Japanese. I don’t think we would see many negative comments if a K pop star released a song in Spanish, for example. It’s all based on the same principle of getting your music into the various markets.
I see your point here, and it’s probably why the music industry isn’t global but rather each country has their own industry simply because it is easier for everyone, listeners and singers/songwriters, when songs are in the native language of the particular country. Yes, a lot of song themes are universal but each country or region has their own cultural references and issues (and sounds) that make certain songs resonate with the local populace. It takes a lot to overcome that and be a true “crossover” artist. For sure the difficulties that people have in correctly pronouncing words in foreign languages and making themselves understood clearly contribute a lot to why a certain artist will not be successful in a foreign market. From the little I’ve seen, people don’t want to admit that BTS has problems with their English pronunciation and their accents are still pretty heavy. I know they use the autotune but it is still often difficult to clearly understand them when they sing in English. Their fans will overlook it, but I believe it hinders them when it comes to gaining widespread recognition in the US market.
True enough, although other people have done it. For example producer Max Martin, who is Swedish but has written Grammy winning songs in English.
I’m just a casual listener for BTS but I think they do follow the K Pop formats in many of their songs.
I’ve been thinking about BTS and how they remind me of ABBA in some ways. ABBA was a foreign pop supergroup who faced a lot of prejudice among music industry peers and many of the general public. Of course, they had a huge advantage over BTS in that ABBA could both write and sing their songs fluently in English even though their native language was Swedish. However, at the time many dismissed their music as “pop garbage” and didn’t appreciate their singing skills (they have great harmonies and beautiful voices). I think Professional jealousy played a part as well. ( I’m sure there is also some Professional jealousy for BTS too.) Their song The Winner Takes It All is actually very difficult to sing, but ABBA make it look so easy. It wasn’t until about 20 years after their heyday that people in the industry and others really came out and started to appreciate their music publicly, which culminated in their induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010, this group who had been criticized for not having any rock roots. Perhaps it will be the same for BTS where true appreciation will come in later years.
I still stand by my statement that a Grammy Award win won’t come to them until they have a song that is completely written and sung by them in English. They need a song that has the “BTS flavor”. Right now their input for the English songs has been minimal. Dynamite was written by others. For Butter, RM contributed the rap verse but everything else was other people, and same I believe for Permission to Dance. It will not be easy, but not an impossible task. They could work with a translator for the lyrics if necessary. It will take some time and effort to work on their pronunciation though. Of course, I might be wrong and they may get an award for one of their Korean songs. Grammy award for non English language song has happened in the past, but odds are against it, I feel. “Volare” (which was in Italian) was over 60 years ago and remains the only non English language song to win Song of the Year and Record of the Year.
Don’t feel bad. Not every song or album can be a hit. There will be disappointments. From what you say, it sounds like EXO are trying a new musical direction that just didn’t work for you. Hopefully the next album will be better. I had to say goodbye to Madonna years ago. I loved her first 2 albums but she went in a new musical direction with her 3rd album and it didn’t resonate with me so I stopped following her. (Not saying that you will stop with EXO)
Funny/interesting (to me anyhow) story that occurred a couple of weeks ago. I am friends with a couple here in town; the wife works for the same university I do and the husband is a professor of plant biology (retired from the same university). We get together about once a month or so for lunch (or supper as we rural U. S. Midwesterners call it). I had been discussing with him my interest in South Korea due to the viewing of my K-dramas. At our last get-together, he started talking about how popular K-pop is getting and other surprising SK facts and suggested that we (his wife, he, and I) all take a trip to SK sometime. He is used to global travel since the university used to sponsor Interim trips every year. Hmmmm… Looks like I’ve got something to look forward to in the future?
I’m there you tell me when!!!
I use to make fancy cupcakes for potlucks, the xmas party we use to host, and birthday cakes for my kids, they’re meant to be eaten, those of us who make them want you to ooh and ahh over them, and then eat them.
One of my dramas just made my day. I’ll take one of those beautiful cupcakes in celebration with a vanilla Italian soda with extra whip!
now that sounds like a “sugar” crush about to happen!! well with you being younger, guess you can have it then… hehehehehe
The moment calls for a sugar high.
Did anyone remember to watch the Netflix Tudum fan event? I totally forgot about it, but Soompi posted an article.
Netflix Unveils Release Schedule For Upcoming Korean Original Series And Films | Soompi
This is true. My favorites are still Blood, Sweat and Tears, Fake Love, and Boy With Luv. I feel like those songs are very BTS.
This is another thing that will turn off music fans. Fans who are there for the music first and everything else afterwards. Honestly, I’m a music fan, and that’s why my top three are EXO, NCT DREAM and SEVENTEEN. I love listening to the vocals and acapella/harmony most. EXO’s most recent full albums, Don’t Mess Up My Tempo and Obsession, turned me into an instant fan because of the amazing use of acapella, ad-libs and harmony. It’s not just the tunes.
I’m 90% sure this isn’t a new musical direction. The album was “special”. Hurried along, zero promotions(they didn’t even go live on the day of the album release ), two members in the military(the leader and a main vocal who also participated in songwriting), two very recently released from the military, one member in a different country(he was edited in to the MV). None of them really participated in the songwriting and producing. It was like a quick effort, either to bring in more money for SM or to keep the audience invested in a group that had last sung together as 9 way back in 2018 and were on complete hiatus for almost two years.

Look who is visiting in the Café today! I’m sure he would help out and bring us all some
Today is one of those days. I am seriously too old to drool over men young enough to be my children. I can admire their skill as actors and their business smarts as they try to establish themselves as credible, trustworthy entrepreneurs, but to joke about anything else is embarrassing.
Most women I know who are my age are married, widowed, or divorced with children or they have nearby siblings with children that they can dote on.
I am not interested in pretending to be married to anyone my age who is a TV or movie star I will never meet. If that person is my age and is a well-known celebrity, that person already has a wife (or two), children, and grandchildren. Imagining adultery with a Korean celebrity is not my idea of fun.
I do want to contribute to the promotion of content on Viki by using my well-developed skills in the area of English language subs.
I keep asking around as dramas flood in from Viki with crappy subs: “Can I help? Can I help?” And over and over CMs assume I have no training, have no idea what the standards are . . . and I have to very carefully explain that I absolutely have had training, know what the standards are, and am entirely competent to work with English subs.
Yet nobody is interested in having me do anything.
Viki is a playground, not a real life. If I can’t make a real contribution, I personally feel as if I am wasting time paying for my entrance fee to the playground.
I have no physical reason to take a leave of absence from the Viki community, but I need to matter some how in real time to real people.
So I probably won’t be showing up on the Discussion Board for the next couple of weeks.
