Subbers Without Moderators [HELP]

Uhm, I need some help since i just joined on viki 2 days ago. I only have little insights on Viki’s language so I need a little assistance on this.

I came across with this category on a kdrama channel, it’s written “Subbers Without Moderators”, what does it mean? What are the differences with the subber with moderators (the subbers that already in team project)

and I’d be very happy if anyone wants to share with me some language on Viki that a newbie may not know but should have known

thank you !

The difference between a subtitler and a moderator is…

Moderator: oversees the language’s subtitles + makes sure the subtitles are the best they can be, manages the team’s work, keeps everything under control, etc… They’re like “teachers.”

Subtitler: they write subtitles in their language. They’re like “students.”

In shorter terms, the moderator makes sure the subtitlers are doing their job correctly and efficiently.

“Subbers without moderators” means that there are subtitlers working on subbing the drama in their language, but they don’t have a “mentor” (moderator) to help them fix their mistakes or to talk to if they have a question about something [related to the drama].

Thanks for your response!
If a subber without moderator can join to sub a project, is it mean that they already sub the project without contacting the moderators first ? Then, is it ok to be a subber without moderator?

Bcs so far, what i know is before joining to sub a project, a subber needs to contact the CM first, then when the subber already accepted to be part of the team, the subber name can be shown on credit in that channel as a subber for a language of their choice, not as a subber without moderators.

It’s usually fine if a subtitler subs without a moderator, but most channel managers will try to find a moderator for that language. If you want to join the team, but there’s no moderator for your language, contact the channel manager. Always ask a moderator or channel manager to join the team before you sub, or you will probably get warned (yelled at).

I did contact a cm on a channel 2 days ago, but i still get no response. Is that mean i’m not accepted ? :disappointed_relieved:
I really want to start joining in a team to sub the project i’m interested with.

Thank you @bozoli I’ve read it all and it does give much help ! Thank you for sharing

Don’t worry! It could mean many different things. The main ones are…

  1. The CM is very busy, so (s)he is not able to respond to messages right away.

  2. The CM is on a hiatus or is inactive.

  3. The CM read the message but forgot about it.

You should check their recent contributions to see if they are active or not. If they are, send them another message, if not, send a message to a moderator.

I see. Alright, I think I should contact the moderator of the language I want to sub. Thanks for the suggestion, it really helps !
