Want to subtitle? Let people know!

Lately Viki has made a rule that if there is no moderator in a language, there can be no subbers without moderator. Therefore the Channel Manager cannot add you.
What you can do is write to a Hindi moderator and ask him/her whether s/he needs help with some project and/or note that you would like to work on this particular drama, so would s/he be interested in applying for the moderator role there?

Hello! Iā€™m looking for projects to subtitle from Chinese to Korean (or any available language to Korean). If any team needs a Korean subtitler, Iā€™d love to help out. Let me know if thereā€™s an opportunity. Thanks!

You should look for recent Chinese dramas and write to the Korean moderator if there is one.

Hello, Iā€™m available to subtitle Korean ā†’ English! Please let me know!

I looked at recent dramas that donā€™t require a Viki Pass, and after checking many, I could only find two Korean moderatorsā€”both of whom seem to have been inactive for over six months. Maybe I should try reaching out to them.

Yes, try reaching out but itā€™s likely it wonā€™t come to anything.
If you donā€™t have Viki pass it means that you donā€™t have 3000 subtitles, therefore even if you write to the Channel Manager s/he wonā€™t be able to add you as moderator.
The Coming Soon would be the next step, but those will be behind Viki pass.
The only thing to get out of this vicious circle is to ask a moderator of a Coming Soon project saying that youā€™re willing to pay for a Vikipass for 3 months, until you get your first 3000 subtitles. (Donā€™t start the subscription until you get a place in a project!) Itā€™s very counterintuitive and unfair, to have to pay in order to work for free, and I usually donā€™t recommend it, but there are cases where itā€™s the only way.

ā€œIt seems like getting into a project is quite difficult without a Viki Pass. But first, I want to do my best to join projects without paying for the Viki Pass. I will try to apply and take advantage of any opportunity I can. Also, approximately how long does it take to get a Viki Pass? Thank you for taking the time to share this important information.ā€

Hello, I am from the Netherlands and I like to subtitle Korean projects from English to Dutch.
Dag, ik kom uit Nederland en ik wil graag Koreaanse projecten ondertitelen van Engels naar Nederlands.
I love Kdramaā€™s, especially the costume period dramaā€™s.
Ik hou van Kdramaā€™s, vooral de kostuumperiode dramaā€™s.

Dutch and Afrikaans are very similar. By any chance do you happen to speak both?

Hello! Iā€™m looking for a project to subtitle for. I can translate from Korean to English. I can work about 2 hours a week. If anyone needs one Iā€™d be happy to help! Thank you!

I reached the 3000 subtitles in less than two monthsā€¦ However, I now realize how lucky I was (and also a little obsessed :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:) Every day is getting harder to find a project that doesnā€™t come ā€œpresubbedā€ in Spanish, so I asked to the moderators I had worked with to join their editing teamsā€¦

Maybe you could start segmenting? Or translating from Korean to English? or from English to any other language you are proficient with?
Best of luck!
