I’m looking for projects to subtitle in french.
I wanted to restart subbing Chinese to English but I see over the years the interface and project finder has changed.
Are the projects on the project finder actually looking for subbers? Some of them have finished airing or some have a “Last responded 19 days ago” tag on them.
How are people finding active project to join?

Better to look at the Coming Soon section and then search for the English moderator/English Chief Editor and write to him or her.
Some projects come pre-subbed in English, in that case you may want to apply as a Translation Editor rather than a subber.
Hi! I’m a newby.
I would like to translate from English to Serbian, Bosnian, Croatian, and Montenegrin (actually, four different varieties of almost one and the same language 
)
Now, I started making a sample, and since I speak a bit of Korean as well, I noticed that Korean original and English translation don’t match. When I translate to Serbian, should I also take Korean original in count? Because sometimes, Korean original seems closer to Serbian than English translation.
For example, Korean “you came” was translated as “You’re here”, but in Serbian, for that specific scene, "You came "would be closer to how we speak.

With “don’t match,” you mean that the translation is not literal, word by word. However, translation is not supposed to be word by word. You have to transport the meaning, but still say it in a way that is natural for your language. So if “You came” is natural for Serbians, then yes, say it that way. But that has nothing to do with taking the Korean original into account, which might coincidentally say this the same way.
Knowing Korean could help in case the English is wrong or if it’s about something that is hard to express in English. But that is not what this is about.

Thank you. I used to translate books and poems, so I’m familiar with the concept, but I never used the “middle language” before.
You answered my question perfectly, though. I was afraid moderators might want a literal translation from English to Serbian.

I started with my first project, and finished the first part of the episode, yey!
But when I want to move to the second part, I get notified that my work will not be safed if I leave the page I’m on.
I saved every segment in part 1. Should I do something more to save the whole translation of that part?
You probably see something like this:
It’s a standard notification saying that your data “possibly” won’t get saved if you leave the page. In reality, everything has already been saved, either by you clicking on “save” after each subtitle, or automatically when you went to the next subtitle, either by putting your cursor there or by using the tab button.
If for some reason a sub didn’t get saved, there will be a message in red in the subtitle editor itself and you can usually fix it by clicking “save” again. But this happens right after trying to save the sub, not when you try to get to the next part.
So no, there is no need to do anything more. You can safely go to the next part.

Yes. At least on Windows, you can hold the Control button and then type j.
If this doesn’t work on your system, you can copy it from the English subtitle.

Hi everyone! I’ve joined the Viki contributors community very recently and I’d like to subtitle from English to Italian.
The genres I prefer are: action, animation, crime&mistery, drama, fun, supernatural, romantic comedy, fantasy, sports, costumes&period, thriller & suspense, historical, idol drama, web drama, short movies, and romance. Any country is fine.
For now, I’m available for 2H/week and my time zone is (GMT+2:00) CEST (Central European Summer Time).

Hey,
I‘ve started subtitling pretty recently (english to german) and I‘ve tried joining projects on the project finder, but all the projects I looked at already had finished german subtitles or a subtitler already working on them. I know someone mentioned this problem earlier and it got suggested to take a look at the coming soon section but where do i find that or is it not a section on here?
Would be great if someone could help and if you need a german subtitler please message me

Moon River! I already applied for a project as a Serbian subber, but haven’t got the respond yet.

It’s because, for now, Vikisubteam is the channel manager. If you’re lucky, at some point, a volunteer will become channel manager and choose a team. But even then, you can only apply as a subber if there already is a moderator for your language. Otherwise, you can only apply as a moderator, but you need to have written at least 3.000 subtitles in Serbian on Viki before you can be added as a Serbian moderator.
