Welcome to Viki's new Community Discussions! Here's a guide to get you started.
This is a place for community members to come and hang out -- a place to talk about anything from your favorite shows and actors to the next community meeting, or to connect with people who speak the same language. Viki staff will also sometimes post news here.
Some things to keep in mind when participating in Discussions
- Follow the Community & Discussion Guidelines
- This is a community discussion forum -- to contact Viki staff, send a note through the Help Center. (Although Viki staff moderate these forums, they aren't here all the time.)
- Most importantly, have fun!
Tips for using the Discussion Forums
1. Browse Through Categories
There are two ways to search through the categories:
Select the “Categories” drop-down in the upper-right hand corner to view the eight main “parent” categories
Selecting the “Categories” tab at the top of the Discussions homepage to view all of our forums in one place, including both categories and their subcategories.
Find some categories you're interested in, like Subtitling, Español, or Taiwanese Dramas!
2. Star Your Favorite Topics
When you find a Topic you like, click the star button (on the left of the topic title) to add it to your Favorites. Later, you can click the Favorited tab to view your starred topics.
3. Comment on a Topic
Click on the blue Reply button below a topic to participate in the discussion. Play around with the formatting options, like in this example below. Your editing space is on the left side, while the right side will show a preview of your post.
4. Like, Bookmark, Flag, and more
Below each reply is a set of buttons like these:
Click the heart to like a comment, the flag to mark a post as inappropriate, the chain share the direct link, and the red bookmark to save. If you're looking at your own post, click the pencil to edit or trashcan to delete.
5. Create a Topic for discussion
When you're ready to start your own discussion, click "Create Topic" in the upper right corner of the forums. Write a simple title and description, and don't forget to choose a category. Note: Each topic may only have one category.
Making a topic, but it doesn’t fit in any of that forum’s the listed sub-categories? Create it in the larger “parent” category (just follow the same steps as listed above).
6. New member restrictions
For spam prevention reasons, new community members aren't able to create topics in discussions until they have spent some time hanging out and reading posts. As a new user, you can contribute to existing topics though.
You're ready to go! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to the Viki Community Team members, Mariko, Kristine, Arif and Brittany, or contact the Help Center.
