Whatcha Wearin is a soft porn movie?

Thanks so much for pointing out this awesome movie! I got curious after reading this post, and I went and watched it. Definitely one of the sweetest and funniest films, it had me with a big smile all the time. And so romantic too! Yeah, there was sex, but there was sex as there is in real life, was not really the focus of the film. It’s just that you’re not used to people in Korean films and dramas speaking about this stuff as they speak in real life.

So I watched the movie (and did subs on it) and even though there was sex in it it was all very natural and for me not porn-like. I think the most you were able to actually see were naked breasts, which is a natural part of the human body

I can understand that certain ages should not watch this movie yet but honestly, nowadays 14 year olds have boyfriends (and what comes with that).
9 year olds should not be left unattended on the internet, older teens will have their way of getting material if they want. Why try to get this harmless movie removed? What I actully love most about it how in he end she does what is needed (trying not to spoil so I can’t be more specific).

And please only use “we” if you’re actually speaking for a group, you can post your opinion without making it seem like you are speaking for everyone

I didn’t know what you were referring to at first but was interested enough to read all comments. This is a sensitive subject and although it is imperative that adults protect young children it is also their responsibility. The most curious are of course teenagers from 15 approx. If by chance they source this movie it is not porn believe me. I was recommended this by another Ji Sung fan after I had followed the drama "Secret’ I watched it and was not shocked. There is an old drama called ‘It happened in Bali’ or the one with So In Sung ‘something flower’ I would consider these more shocking. I don’t agree with the site removing a movie or drama. Better just to warn parents in advance that it’s a 15 rating. One thing you have done is make lots of folk more curious now.

I remembered that Bali movie as well  I believe now this movie has attracted even more viewership!!

P.S means Phone Sex, so actually, the “sex” is there.

(I only figured this out by reading the discription)

I was kind of caught off guard when I found the movie on the Viki front page (both the website and Android app).

Since too many people are against the idea of taking down the movie, I think the best solution would be to take it off the front page (if it’s still there) and make it so that the movie is only found if you search for it.

Just because children are overly sexual nowadays, doesn’t mean we should be supporting such behaviour. Let kids be kids.

Yes, sweetie, but as has been said before, viki’s terms of use say that one should be over 18 to use it. The fact that many people don’t pay attention to that is not viki’s fault. I’m not advocating actual porn movies, but this one frankly doesn’t even show anything much, and leaves most to imagination.

I agree with you. It’s actually a very funny little story and even sweet. Not anywhere near soft porn.

While I agree with you that it’s not entirely Viki’s fault, in reality, how many people actually read the terms of use for anything these days?

Also, bear in mind that Viki is used around the world. Whereas in your culture what was shown in the movie may not be considered “anything much”, in other cultures, it may be just as shocking as actual porn! :open_mouth:

If you don’t believe me, just take K-dramas as an example. The majority of them are rated 15+ and have a viewer discretion warning at the start of each episode, but from a Western standpoint, most people wouldn’t see why they can’t be suitable for family viewing.

You are bringing up an interesting point here. Thresholds vary so much in different parts of the world, that it is impossible to really reconcile them.
Have you read the wonderful book by Astrid Lindgren, called Ronja the Thief’s Daughter? The film is about the friendship of two children a girl, Ronja, and a boy, Borka, respectively the daughter and the son of rival chieftains of robber bands. They are around 10-11. My daughter has read it more than 10 times, I’ve read it twice (as an adult), the book is in a sorry condition right now from all this use.
Well, they made an anime out of it a couple of years ago (Gibli studio, nice but much too childish). Before that, however, in 1984, there was a really wonderful Swedish movie, the screenplay made by the author herself.
Well, there is a a point where the chieftain’s wife sees that all the thieves, locked up in the castle for months because of the snow, are much too dirty and they have lice. So she makes them all undress so that she can boil and wash their clothes while they wash themselves in the snow.
So there is this hilariously funny scene where the serious and supposedly frightening robbers all run naked in the snow, while the chieftain’s wife shouts at them to do a good job cleaning themselves properly. In the anime they are shown from the back. In the Swedish film they are shown from relatively far, but from the front, so their private parts are clearly seen dangling. It’s a funny scene, and there is absolutely no question at all that it may be pornographic or sexual in any way, but can you imagine it being shown in Egypt or any other Muslim country?
Later on, when summer finally comes, there is a scene of the two friends (who call one another brother and sister) are happy to roam freely in the woods again after the long winter wait. They go to the lake, strip naked and dive into the water, swimming, splashing around and having good fun. Then they come out and they dress themselves again, in front of the camera. Some body parts are showing. Again, in many parts of the world this perfectly innocent scene couldn’t be shown. In the anime, they even keep the girl with some long underwear like capri shorts.

So, to come back to viki. To reconcile such a big difference among countries is impossible. So should viki only show what is appropriate to the most strict and conservative of those countries. Wouldn’t that be discriminating against the others?
I believe it is trying to strike a balance. A balance means that some shows will be displeasing to the most conservative countries and some shows will seem puerile and ridiculous to the less conservative countries.
As k-drama situations often seem ridiculous to me. All these 30-year-olds who are still virgins and act shocked at the idea of anything sexual, which they call “have one’s mind in the gutter” or having “dirty thoughts” (why is sex dirty?).
And the kisses! Where they have at least half a metre between them, they are both stiff like wooden poles, not hugging the other person. The man, instead of hugging the woman, just takes her face in his hands (I would feel suffocated and claustrophobic if a man did that to me), and she leaves her arms hanging down lifeless. The man is the only one to do any kissing, while the woman has to roll her eyes in shocked surprise as if she had just seen Godzilla.
And every time people do hug, they go “pat pat” (hand clearly shown in close up), to make it clear to the viewer that it’s a friendly comforting hug and not anything remotely sexual.
And if a man looks at a woman with desire, or thinks about sex, he is labelled " a pervert". Do they even know what a pervert is?

This is so ridiculous that it greatly lessens the appeal of the dramas to us Europeans-Americans-Australians. But whenever there is something more realistic, there is a bunch of other people, either Asian or Muslims or both, who say that it’s too risqué, too explicit.

They really really cannot please everyone. It’s not easy to be in viki’s shoes.

By the way, if people don’t read the terms of use it’s hardly viki’s fault now, is it? To be honest, I also didn’t read them. But if someone tells me about a rule later on, I won’t make a fuss, because I am responsible for not reading them.

My son works in a technical assistance call/mail/chat center, and tells me that most problems people have wouldn’t be there if people had read the user manual and terms of guarantee. They all act all surprised and indignant and loudly complain when you tell them things that they should have read upon purchasing the product but they chose not to read. He says he’s happy it’s like that, though, because if people read the user manual he would be out of a job.

With all due respect, I don’t see how Viki would be upsetting Westerners by pleasing people of more conservative cultures. Being someone who has lived both in the Eastern and Western hemispheres and been immersed in both cultures, I find that staying within the boundaries of the more conservative cultures will not hurt anyone.

As long as people can find what they’re looking for, they won’t be bothered by the fact that it’s not on the website’s home page. On the other hand, someone who is more conservative would be highly shocked/offended to find what they consider to be “explicit content” on the front page.

I also don’t see any reason as to why this would lower the film’s appeal. Earlier in this thread, someone mentioned that she looked up the movie after another Ji Sung fan recommended it. That goes to show that it’s demographic will eventually find it.The producers created and marketed the movie for a specific age demographic; it’s not Viki’s job to expand that demographic. Also, since the movie has been around for a while and is fairly well know, people will continue to search for it. They don’t need to see it on the front page for that to happen.

At the end of the day, Viki is a business and the customer is always right. They have to keep as many people as possible happy or else their viewers will head over to DramaFever and their new $0.99/month membership plan.

Well done you and well said. I always get such a laugh in those dramas you have described I think it’s hilarious that the Koreans can be so frank and honest about all their bodily functions but refer to desire as ‘LIKE’. I do not agree with censorship but I believe it’s important to state that some issues may not be suitable to certain age groups. That’s enough. Personally I do not care about the sex scenes or any reference to desire but like to be advised if the brutality is explicit. I have a difficulty with violence for the sake of violence. Oh dear to each his own. Well this all started with a discussion about a really sweet little movie that may or not be suitable for children. That is the job of parents not our Viki site.

I literally laughed so hard reading this. So true how most of the kisses are so robotic. I can’t even watch Park Shin Hye doing a kissing scene. Her face just kills me.

And the Godzilla part…genius.

Now you’re narrowing it down to not being on the front page. Which is OK with me.
But the O.P., to whom I was replying, wanted it removed immediately from the site.

^ That was my argument from the beginning lol.

However…
I don’t know how the site functions, but it may be that things to appear on the first page appear randomly? Because I often see oldish dramas there. I have no idea whether there can be exceptions to the “randomness”.

I liked P.S. Partner but I agree that there definitely needs a minimum of a R+ ratings on this drama. Maybe Viki should have some sort of rating scale to help viewers better pick out dramas which are more in line with their personal views. Honestly the one nude scene which could be classified as soft porn between the man and his ex-girlfriend seemed sort of unnecessary but it probably was an audience draw considered who the main actor was. Wondered what his wife thought and wondered if a body double was used for parts.

Strangely I am personally a very conservative person in the way I conduct my own life but what I liked about this story was how the two main characters were so honest with each other after the accidental phone sex meeting. The main male lead was very respectful to her unlike her boyfriend who wasn’t decent and put his needs ahead of hers. The main female lead was very supportive of him emotionally and a good listener.

Also, sensuality is part of an adult relationship. Nothing between these two characters was mean spirited or aggressive which could lead down some ugly path. Sexual in nature yes but only part of the storyline.

( Note I said adult because I think this unwise for under 18 year olds to be running around exploring fully before their brain cells are fully developed. )

Not quite sure how to solve this problem but good luck to Viki trying to figure this out.

As far as being on the front page, it only appeared one week when it was the Viki Pass movie of the week. It’s not there anymore so it shouldn’t be a problem. The dramas on the from page change every week.

The movie is marked as NC-17 by Viki and we have a note that it is not appropriate for minors on the cover page. I believe that’s enough information for parents to decide what their children can watch here. For everyone of age, we can decide whether we want to watch or not based on the nature of the movie.
