@glykeria. Not text, test. It was a typo.
I’ll send you a p.m.
i don’t have problems with subtitles in Viki. Popular dramas are subtitled pretty fast. Maybe it’s not too slow like people said, but it’s maybe slow comparing to DF. If this drama is slow in making subtitles, why don’t go to different dramas or doing something else?
More like 7 minutes to 1 hr per part or more depending on difficulty.
If that sounded passive aggressive, I apologize. I just wanted to let him/her know the subber views on Viki, because I know there are a LOT of comments out there about how subs are slow. I didn’t know this until I became a volunteer…
crazyjennstar, one of the best! yeah subbers get the fire I guess I would call it. if only people knew what you guys/gal;s go through maybe they/we/I would shut up and stop complaining so much! yeah like I have said, all these places do have their issues, but goodness, give them a break y’all they are doing the best they can! I for one am not able to do what thesubbers do, per language and all. so more power to them! and I mean this on all those links, they have jobs, go to school, home makers, and the list goes on. oh yeah I was one but I learned a lot from these people,“the subbers” so I don’t grip[e or complain, even the license comes into play wow! as for drama fever, what upsets me most is they don’t have all the subbing on their stories, and this is some of the older ones the one I was curious about, Viki slow in their subs, and df missed out of not showing a sub that was vital to the story. I went back to viki to watch it and the sub was finally there. wow what a difference to wait is!! as for netflix? its ok, but has a different version on the subs, different words. like I said before and will again, they all have issues viki is good, so is DF issues again…
Thanks for the post. You just answered my question. I’ll go to the other site and put my money there.
I still found lots of errors on the other site so much that the subtitles are confusing and do not make sense. I have been compiling a list.
You don’t even need to be a speaker of the video language to know. That’s embarrassing.
sophia2you. I agree, when I watched that one drama it really disturbed me that all the subbing wasn’t there. and on Netflix, it was so hilarious of the language they used for the sub.
“my foreign language skills are lacking my English skills are not”,ummm…but not that great if you cannot properly write/punctuate a sentence or cannot even spell grammar. I also cannot believe that you would not think that these hardworking volunteers would not take your derisive tone personally!!
Unfortunately, I don’t think viki is revolutionary any more. I think it has lost its way. I wonder how many segmenters are going to like being segmenting editors. They will have the same problems that editors have where every segment is checked, but they only get credit for the ones actually edited. If viki does the automatic segments, will segmenters want to spend the time to correct segments. Very discouraged with viki. I don’t segment like I used to. Used to segment 20,000 at least a year. But with all the changes, I have seen so many great segmenters, editors and translators leave. Very sad. The innovations was the fact that we all worked together from all over the world in many different languages to get a drama translated within a few days. Viki saved tons of money through volunteers. And it has been cheap to those who pay because we have done so much work for free. But, I am talking to the choir, right Sophie! I’m so agree with you. So many just don’t understand the work of the volunteer and the innovation of viki to see it.
Has there been any indication that Viki might be going to an automated segmenting process?
Viki pass? wow, you guys opened a can of worms for me.
1, they have good to great subbers,
2 yeah maybe takes a day or two for it to come up
3 they give us what we pay for
4 this discussion board
now need I compare with Drama Fever?? sorry folks on the other end
! sometimes service isn’t as good as it should be
2 they have their own subbers
3 and some of the dramas, some of the English subs are blocked out
4 I want what I pay for.
so to answer your question yes it"s well worth the money, just remember the time line as well, yeah may take a day or two for the drama & subs to come up, well worth the wait. yeah Viki pass is it!
as for Netflix, Love it! the subs are there, some of the subs are funny, if you compare the drama with Viki or DF. and I hope I haven’t said or done anything wrong in mentioning these other sites. and by the way I still like Drama Fever, I just vented today is all. thanks for listening.
I agree with you on most parts however other than the more popular korean dramas (which do take only a day or two) alot of chinese dramas can take a week or even (in a few cases) months to sub and the variety shows never get subbed. the problem with volunteer subbers vs paid ones is paid ones have to sub everything and do it within a set time. volunteer subbers tend to only sub the shows they themselves enjoy and either take their time or ignore completel. so we are totaly at the whim of subbers choice of their shows and if their is a show you want to see that isnt as popular you have no choice but to wait for them to get around to them if they choose to if they dont (mostly in chinese and japanese dramas) you out of luck. but i know that my money doesnt pay for subbing which is why i may stop subscribing.
you are so right about a lot of what you said, esp about the subbers
I get viki, netflix, youtube, and dramafever. Drama fever got cheaper, but viki has a lot of volunteers so they can save money there. I was thinking. In California, minimum wage will be $15 dollars. I am not sure what viki is charging. I will estimate $6, so for a year it is about 70 dollars. I figure that a volunteer needs to work 10 hours to pay for their QC status, but I love segmenting. I probably segment 8X that amount, so viki should be able to license more shows from different countries more than they do. We have to do about 1000 segments a year I think. I like having it for free, but like with others who love collaborating and volunteering, I wish they would use the amount they are making from volunteering to also get more Spanish and Fillipino dramas besides the Chinese and Korean.
I agree with you, Viki is unfair because they would release dramas that are not 100% complete. Dramafever is very good when it comes to subtitles but sometimes they’d release it a day/s later. I used to be a subber but when Viki limit my access and forced me to pay for subscription that was the time I stopped subbing for them. I have two Viki accounts and this was inactive one. They treat us so unfairly and we are the one putting money in their wallet in the first place.
I am getting kinda frustrated that after a year as a member it just seems like there isnt a great deal of new content being offered., Especially in new movie section,… It seems to have gotten slower and slower… Viki is a big company you would think for $49.99 a year you would regularly see new content. I am thinking about dropping my subscription in January when it renews…
Movies were never Viki’s forte, I must admit. And ironically, they are much easier to translate fully than any drama out there.
well, I am beginning to agree with the majority here
