I’ve been with viki since the end of 2012 and this is the 1st year I can’t get the gift since I don’t live in the “right country”. I wish a postcard that we can put as a screensaver or something would replace it, just so we can feel that we’re appreciated.
Thank you to all the hard working volunteers here on Viki.
I’m still in shock. The gift is… idk, since when stickers are gifts, maybe with something sweet and like toy, but only stickers. That sounds not to ofend anyone, or be ungrateful but… cheap. Based on how some people hard work all year. But idk maybe it’s just my opinion.
Starting next year, there will be nothing. Also, if we gather together all the changes they made in 2025, it’s absolutely clear that they gradually want to discontinue the volunteering and become like other streaming sites with paid subbers. So we should expect more changes to diminish us this year.
Maybe ferwell party with the stickers? Idk I maybe sound ungratefull but when I see this as gift when print cost so little, maybe shipping will be more, but in this price we could get something other, or at least some sweets or a viki toy I guess. Some people work really really hard, and it’s last year, so I didn’t expext it. This gift made me in pure shock.
Well, if they want to have paid subbers like other streaming sites they should do a test to screen out people… I think there are capable people in every community so they should start to select who really is capable and reliable and paid them! They should give the volunteers a possibility…
I wasn’t aware that this was the last year they supported the program and I like the idea of being a physical gift - however to not provide a digital option to those that won’t/can’t have something mailed felt like “let’s hope not a lot of people request their gift”. It definitely left me with a bittersweet feeling, and I’m still struggling to decide if I want it or not.
Are you saying that Viki will cease the platform for volunteers? Is that official, did I miss something? I saw the link for the gift, but as last year mishap of the credit card that never worked I will open the link when Im in mood… if it’s just stickers, I have those… I still have the pretty blue notebook and the bag and yeah 2 tshirts… well times are changing and AI will change us too…
Thanks for the information about the 2025 Year End Gift. Much appreciated. I wish V had announced what the gift was in the message they sent out so people could easily decide if they wanted it or not before filling out the form. I’m truly sorry the digital option was not available this year, but it is what it is.
As for the selection of stickers for the final gift, I can understand where they are coming from. In past years, when they offered larger items like the t-shirts and the snack box, I remember there were many volunteers who had problems receiving the gifts because of customs/duty issues. Stickers that can be put in a regular mail envelope and don’t have to be declared is the easiest choice to ensure the maximum number of people can receive the gift without problems.
I personally prefer the digital gift, but after all of the problems that occurred last year with the digital credit card for many volunteers, I understand why they decided not to offer it this year.
I was hoping the physical gift selection for this year would be something useful to me, like a tote bag or an umbrella, or even a ballpoint pen, but it is what it is. As I said, I can understand why they chose the stickers. I would like to think it is for logistical reasons to ensure that the largest number of volunteers can receive the gift easily and not because it was the least costly option.
@simi11 No, Viki will not cease the platform for volunteers. It is ceasing the Year End Gift Program. This is the final gift.
I’m sorry that they are ending the program. Perhaps it became too costly and they must cease it due to budget constraints. To be honest, I was surprised that V offered any extra gift at all to the volunteers when I became a volunteer here, and I thought it was very nice of them to offer it since our main benefit is getting a free subscription, which I felt was a sufficient reward for volunteer efforts. I felt the Year End Gift was a sign of just how much V appreciates volunteer efforts and cares about volunteers. I have enjoyed receiving my gift each year. Well, costs keep rising and perhaps the Gift budget is needed to help pay for licensing fees for dramas, so we must say goodbye to the program.
Thank you to each and every one of you for all of your time and effort expended in 2025 on all of the dramas, films, and shows to provide the best viewing experience to Viki audiences worldwide. Your efforts matter and make a difference. I appreciate it, and I know the viewers do, too.
I am sorry for those who put in so much effort.
Me? I did nothing this year, it was supposed to be a small break but it turned into a longer one.
I would need to look it up but I joined in 2009 or 2010, if I find the time, I will start subbing again, but at the moment life is challenging.
I remember another time cards with signatures of the viki team were sent and stickers, for what reason ever my letter has been in more far away places than I. From the USA it made a detour to Africa, but eventuelly found my mailbox in Germany/Europe.
Time changes everything, not allways for the better. I miss the good times, the bad times not as much. Presents are nice, but being treated nicely feels even better.
Yes me too. I love plushies and I would like to have that blue bubble tea one like our favorite celebs are holding all the time. I actually made the suggestion a few times to give that as a QC gift.
But stickers… so far I haven’t used any of the stickers I received from Viki I believe. Maybe only one to mark something is mine. Hopefully they are cute.
I did wear those shirts so much they look bad now. Except for the ill fitted dark blue #Vikifam shirt. And I still use the “I Viki” totebag almost daily for my groceries and such. I didn’t think it would hold up for like 10+ years (It was the 2014 QC gift I believe). The print is starting to wear off and it has some stains and discoloration I can’t get off with washing it but I’m to lazy to grab the replacement.
I know how you feel, I used to enjoy volunteering on Viki a lot… and I miss the community feel and interactions with others. But Viki took away that hobby when they started auto segging. Having that hobby really pulled me through some hard times in life and now that’s gone. Subbing doesn’t give me as much joy and every time I renew my VikiPass I plan to be more active because I do miss what Viki used to be but then eventually I turn into just a viewer again until it’s time to renew VikiPass again. I liked to collect the badges and do some challenges but now I’m like what’s the point, Viki is not what it used to be when I made my account in september 2009. Changes are not always bad and of course some things had to change because everything else is changing too but at this point Viki has lost it’s charm in a way.
Tbh, I stopped being a really active subber, ie. Subbing on air dramas and more than 10k subs a month, after a bully bugged me for over a year on Viki a few years ago. There are still some dramas, I’m kinda afraid to touch in fear she returns with her nasty words. I luv subbing, but the bully has taken most of the fun out of it, most of the time now I’m just maintaining my status and hope the feel of fun would return. I only just this year, 2025, returned to watching viki more, so maybe I’m starting heal (as for many years, I almost exclusively only watched what I subbed, in order to sub😢).
At first, i was at a uni when i got the message from Viki about the end-of-the-year gift and I was really excited until I came home and checked it out Don’t want to sound ungrateful but Stickers only? Every time I had to engage in volunteering work, head companies usually had incentive gifts for their volunteers and I really appreciated this kindness of V as well. This year is so disappointing…
I downloaded the mnet app a few months ago and the last two months or so, they started a pilot where they would put AI translations. Many working translators nowadays are doing proof work for AI translated work or teaching AI how to translate. Times have really changed. Personally, I have a hard time watching AI translated shows, cuz I feel the need to correct way too often…
Yes, it is very sad to see the use of AI over human translation. I agree with you, the quality is not very good as compared with humans. Sadly, this may become the norm. Hopefully, Viki will still let the volunteers edit the content here.
50 dollars, last year 25 dollars, and now, nothing. Like any company, profit comes above all else, even quality, and even the “gift” that was always meant to remind it was voluntary. AI will replace us.
“V” used to be better here.
