Are you sure the old shows count? On the original post, it specifically says itā€™s for the new ones:

How to participate: Subtitle or segment on any of the newly launched Japanese titles.
See under the badge picture for the special badge japanese content criteria:
When: Nov. 3rd 00:00 PDT ~ Nov. 13th 23:59 PDT
How to participate: Subtitle or segment on any of the newly launched Japanese titles. The top 50 subtitlers and top 50 segmenters will receive this exclusive badge. Top 3 subtitlers and top 3 segmenters will receive a special Rakuten x Viki grand prize!

If you sub on the old content you should get only the Japanese genre badge when you reach 300 subs/segs and YES it doesnā€™t appear to be a part of the SUBATHON :frowning:

@irmar @simi11 Thank you, I didnā€™t realize that. Well if that is really the case that would be awfully unfair because they are so few of them
check this page, only three I believe are really new

@camiille Dear Camille can you clarify, please which are the series that participate in the sub-a-thon?

Hi @mahoula,

Thank you for your inquiry.

To participate, subtitle or segment on any of the newly launched Japanese titles. These titles include:

Thank you everyone for your inquiries and feedback, and weā€™re happy that youā€™re excited for the return of Japanese titles! We will be looking to bring in more opportunities for sub-a-thons and badges as we introduce more Japanese content.

@camiille does the regular japanese genre badge count works now or is it still in work?

Dear Camille,
did you receive my report (#341246) about a hoarder moderator?

This person has 57 projects out of which only 3 completed.
Including 4 on-air dramas, yet completely untouched and without a team, although in half of them there are more than 20 episodes already released.
Why Iā€™m mentioning this here? Because I see she has asked and got moderation in one of these Japanese projects.
Why are these people allowed and encouraged here on Viki?

P.S. The report was only 6 days ago, so I wouldnā€™t expect viki staff to address it so soon, but when I saw that this person is even hereā€¦
We have a saying, in Greek, about a person, ā€œNo matter which stone you lift, s/heā€™ll be under itā€

@mahoula

I remember reading somewhere that it was only new Japanese titles but couldnā€™t find where.
We can find it in the QC newsletters they just sent in your linked address email:

Iā€™m sure no harm was intended, but this is just a gentle reminder that the abbreviation ā€œJapā€ for Japanese is generally considered to be offensive.

Hi @camiille. Iā€™m discovering this.
We segmenters segmented Hakuoki SSL: Sweet school life as soon as itā€™s been provided, so before november 3.
Will we be able to get the Japanese badge yet?

Let me change it  In France, itā€™s common to say it in short (no negative sense behind in France fortunately)

We had the same thing @
I Am Reiko Shiratori! - Shiratori Reiko de Gozaimasu! and I was wondering about that too since we segged as soon as it was uploaded and that was before November 3.

No answer to our question, but I can see that they didnā€™t give us the badge. You made more than 1000 segments and I made 725 segments and 189 subs and we got nothing, while someone who only made 260 subs got it.

That was fast getting the badges out. It doesnā€™t seem fair that our segments and subtitles donā€™t count since they were all on the designated channels listed. It isnā€™t our fault that they uploaded them before the start date. There was such a limited amount to work on for top 50 segmenters. There should be some response to this overlook on their part. It shouldnā€™t have been uploaded before the beginning of the time then if it wouldnā€™t count. Please give a response @camiille

In Vikiā€™s defense, they did clearly state at the beginning that the subathon would run from November 3 through the 10th. Having said that, Iā€™m in complete agreement with fizban and bjohnsonwong that it made no sense to make the eligible shows available for two days prior to the start of the subathon. The net effect was to delay work on those shows for most of the contributors, since early contributions wouldnā€™t be counted toward the badge. Perhaps there was some method to the madness, but in the absence of that, I would strongly suggest that in the future, subathons such as this one be aligned with the availability of the shows.

Hi how can be earn this prize?

@dannyelita32_368 It is finished. It was up to 13th November.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for providing your thoughts and concerns for this sub-a-thon.

I wanted to address the feedback weā€™ve received in regards to the timing of the sub-a-thon.

We decided to provide a two-day leeway to allow channel teams to form. This was something we took into consideration because itā€™s been a while since we added Japanese titles to Viki, thus we wanted to allow additional time for channel teams to recruit.

Since the launch of these titles, weā€™ve been blown away by all of your work and the enthusiasm that you brought! Weā€™re very happy to see that and canā€™t wait to bring even more Japanese titles to you. Weā€™ll keep in mind all the points you have raised as we create future sub-a-thons and badge opportunities. Should a similar sub-a-thon and titles launch event happen, weā€™ll do our best to have them start at the same time.

While we understand that there are channel team members who contributed between Nov. 1-2, we will be honoring the application of the badge to users who contributed during the time period on the original announcement.

Thanks again!

Best,
Camille
