Hello, does anyone have a bit more information about the term 기로연? Just want to confirm something.
In English it’s translated as giro party, but that doesn’t help me translate it to Dutch. The 기로연 is held for retired higher court officials - so is this like a banquet?

Ik denk dat je het inderdaad kunt vertalen als banket. De hanja van 기로연 is 耆老宴.
耆老 = oude mensen en 宴 = banket.
Op deze site heb ik een definitie gevonden en google translate maakt daar het volgende van:
‘Dit is een nationaal feest voor voormalige en huidige tattoo-ambtenaren geregistreerd in de Joseon-dynastie.’ (tattoo moet je vervangen door ‘civiele staatsdienaar’)

기로연 - Kiroyeon (Giroyeon) is a national/state banquet in honor of aged (70 and above) government officials (current and former ministers/civil servants) in the Joseon Dynasty.
耆老宴 - In Mandarin Chinese, 耆 means aged folks of 60/70 and above; 老 means aged or old; and 宴 means banquet or big feast.
At that time, the aged/seniors were considered to be intelligent and experienced, and their guidance and suggestions were indispensable for the development of the country. Also considered an aspect of the implementation of the policy of respect for the elderly.

Yeah, I looked up the definition in my Mandarin dictionary after what oriya wrote and was surprised to see that qí had such a specific meaning - “person over sixty years of age” 
Now I wonder if they have a word for the other age groups as well…
