Correct me if I’m wrong. I thought I’ve read somewhere that Viki does keep a copy of the subtitles offline in their server somewhere? If I’m not wrong, it was a comment from a Viki staff? If that’s the case, why can’t Viki just keep them where they are being kept now and have the files available whenever volunteers(CM/QC/other) need them when the licenses finally are obtained, albeit belatedly? I don’t think srt files take up much memory space, even if we’re talking about many, many titles.
Neither can I. Is it a change of policy? That Viki will slowly but surely lessen the Chinese dramas for its global community? If this is so, a rethink in volunteering here is needed since everything will go under the Big Cut someday. I hope it isn’t so.
Also, I see the competition getting more and more Chinese dramas, and some of the good ones that Viki couldn’t or didn’t acquire the licenses for. Viki, please stem the flow of interests (viewers+volunteers) from Viki to elsewhere before it’s too late.
Oh my dear… you’ve got to watch all the eps of CitT. I’ve seen it twice already, and loving it more the second time
Well sometimes you need take a bite of a bitter apple. The understanding for the viewer comes first before the subber’s pride. When I had some time a few years ago, I went back to my first Korean drama that I helped translating to find out that a so called edit never took place.
I think differently about keeping a subtitle that doesn’t deliver just for the sake of the subber, ever subber has the possibilty to correct the subs, to overlook them again, I assume that they do not even read it a 2nd time, when I get sentences that lose their meaning by literal translation. That is something I will always edit, and if I need to edit one part of a sentence and see another problem, then I am not willing to wobble around since it won’t improve the subtitle. I gave up on being too sensible about the subber’s feeling, do they care about an editor’s feelings? But that would be a complete different matter, so maybe create a new topic about, which I just did.
giving this an upward move again, still believe people are not all aware of it. Keep watching your favorites, posting on the ones you will miss the most, and try to save your subs. Still hoping for a couple more licenses too.
I know it’s not your genre but is there a nice modern rom-com, with not too many episodes, perhaps? You can’t search for fan channels, that’s why I am asking.
I am not too much into historical, nor fantasy I am hanging around episode 40 for Nirvana in Fire. And in need for a break …
Painted Skin, a licensed, fully subbed c-drama is now going to
“not be accessible on Viki at this time until further notice.”
“We greatly appreciate all the contributions you and your team made for this title and would like to offer you the option to receive the subtitle files (.SRTs) that have been created. If you’d like to receive the subtitle files for this channel, please fill out the form below by May 19, 2017 12PM (PDT)”
I received the message a few days ago, so they gave me a few weeks to get the subs.
THANK GOODNESS! Painted skin I GOT to SEE it ALL. Loved that drama. What is going on here is it me, or most been removed are THE GOOD one? (Sorry I love those kind of dramas).
Have they explained why they’re doing this? Lack of more viewers? Need space here for other dramas?
I see uploading of old korean dramas been subbed but it makes no sense to me some go as far as 2000’s What gives?
Hey, you don’t know how much I was laughing today. I am so mortified bc I just realize now when I’m in the 16th episode of Candle in the Tomb that the one’s that died were the one’s in THE LOST TOMB (I was watching both dramas) so I combined episode 31 (end) from the lost tomb and was thinking in was the end of Candle in the tomb. hahahahaha NO WONDER I was so lost in the ending.
I should have known better bc usually the end never confuses me, but now we know the reason why this one did. lmao
At least they are contacting you - that’s the upside. Say if they contact a dormant CM on hiatus, well, then nobody gets the subs and suddenly things are gone.
So at least here you can tell folks what is happening…
I still say a GOING SOON part for that front page might help catch EVERYONE so they know…fans and volunteers both?
