When you’re subtitling in Chinese(and Japanese), how do you represent someone stuttering? Like, what’s the halfway character for o-okay. It’s not 女-好 right?
Cause if it is it doesn’t really make sense…

Well no, I don’t think you’d split characters apart.
The audience will probably pick up/ hear the stuttering, so it’s probably not necessary to reiterate in the subtitle. I would think you’d just translate “okay” instead of trying to represent the stuttering.

I think you would repeat that one character that’s being repeated in the stuttering. For example, if you’re trying to say “How… how… how are you?”, as though the person is meeting their idol for the first time or something, then maybe 妳妳妳妳… 好…好嗎? Usually, stuttering is being stuck on one syllable, and all Chinese characters are one syllable long, so I guess it could work that way. I’m pretty positive we never split characters up, because that would make a completely different word or phrase or like you said, just doesn’t make sense at all.
