Hello Contributors!
As promised, here’s a closer look at why Golden Week in Japan is one of the country’s most celebrated periods!
Golden Week is a series of national holidays that occur one right after another! It’s a time when many people in Japan take time off to travel, visit family, or enjoy the beauty of spring. It’s considered to be one of the busiest travel seasons of the year with festivals, events, and celebrations happening all across the country.
Here are the holidays that make up this special week:
- April 29: Shōwa Day (昭和の日, Shōwa no Hi) – A day to honor the birthday of Emperor Showa and reflect on Japan’s history.
- May 3: Constitution Memorial Day (憲法記念日, Kenpō Kinenbi) – Celebrating the promulgation of Japan’s post-war constitution in 1947.
- May 4: Greenery Day (みどりの日, Midori no Hi) – A day to appreciate nature and the environment.
- May 5: Children’s Day (こどもの日, Kodomo no Hi) – A day to celebrate children’s happiness and well-being, often marked by flying colorful carp-shaped streamers called koinobori.
