For that, I think that it’s the CM’s fault too: we all agree that the automatic / AI translations are bad. Sometimes VERY bad. So why shouldn’t there be a team to correct all those mistakes? Why should a single person do all the corrections when we all agree that there is usually A LOT to correct?
For a small project (like a movie) it can be acceptable (just like a person on their own can do the whole translation, after all), but for dramas? With many episodes? There’s no way a moderator can do a decent job on their own, without an actual team.
As for me, I take it as another way to work on dramas. When a “fully new” translation is expected, we can afford to “hire” translators that aren’t so great yet, also because we know it will help them get better. We know we’ll spend more time editing them, so we need a balance of real good and greener translators, but such teams are acceptable in the end. With AI translations, we need good translators, maybe “green” on the editing side (at least I don’t mind), but good translators. But we do need a team, for good, in both situations.
Recently, I got a moderator role only for those “AI translated” dramas: I didn’t have the occasion to face the situation addressed here. Yet, if I had to face it, I would ask my team to consider themselves as editors for the those episodes and we wouldn’t consider the episodes “finished” until after this “edition by humans” would be done. So there would still be the feeling of completion etc.
Of course that’s just me and so on but… for one part, maybe we could also adapt how we’re thinking or approaching our work on the dramas?
This being said, Viki should find a way to inform/warn that even part of the drama will be translated by a robot. It’s just a matter of basic respect for the volunteers. And that issue with the dashboard shouldn’t exist either.

Um, it’s not like you can’t add someone as a Moderator or that you have to do it by yourself. oô While Viki’s instructions usually talk about a Spanish/Portuguese/French Editor for presubbed shows, they are still usually added as Moderators by CMs, so they can build teams if they want to.
It’s not like it’s the CMs job to decide about someone doing it all alone or not. Furthermore, it doesn’t make sense either since you can edit it twice to guarantee the quality and working in a team might as well speed things up in many cases. 
However, I agree that Viki’s information sent to the CM should be rather not seen as a “must have” by any CM.

Pour ma part, j’aurai plutôt tendance à voir le problème du côté philosophique (le mien bien entendu).
Un robot est programmable et vous pouvez lui faire dire ce que vous voulez, mon problème se situe plutôt à ce niveau. Il est évident que vous pouvez aussi programmer un humain en procédant d’une manière différente, c’est peut être un peu plus long et un peu plus onéreux (quoi que). Cependant, si l’on a foi en l’humain, en sa conscience et son bon sens, on peut espérer que cette programmation prendrait fin à un moment ou à un autre, en ce qui concerne le “bot”, aucun espoir.
Perso, je ne comprends pas le chinois, le coréen… donc si la trad anglaise (faite par un “bot”) me raconte une histoire et que je n’ai pas le moyen de détecter que ça ne colle pas avec ce que je regarde à l’écran, eh bien, je traduis. Tant pis pour l’authenticité de l’histoire (?)

For me, I would tend to see the problem on the philosophical side (mine of course).
A robot is programmable and you can make it say whatever you want, my problem lies rather at this level. It is obvious that you can also program a human by proceeding in a different way, it is perhaps a little longer and a little more expensive (maybe not). However, if one has faith in the human being, in his conscience and his common sense, one can hope that this programming would end at some point or another, with regard to the “bot”, no hope.
Personally, I don’t understand Chinese, Korean… so if the English trad (made by a “bot”) tells me a story and I don’t have the means to detect that it doesn’t match what I’m looking at on the screen, well, I translate. So much for the authenticity of the story (?)strong text

Usually, there are one or two editors on the teams. There’s never been a whole team made up of editors and not all subtitlers can become editors.
Things are changing and nobody knows what to do, because Viki doesn’t communicate with us.
Some CM have decided to keep these bad subtitles on their channel, just because they were made by the Viki staff. But we still don’t know if what happened was a mistake or not.

True, but some that don’t have the level of full editors yet might still be able to catch the worst mistakes in the presubs and thereby pave the way for the actual editors. We did that sometimes when English presubs were extremely bad.

The last projects I have had had more than 10 editors, at least 5 French and 5 Spanish. You are right, nobody knows what to do. There is another problem, since we put them as editors, they have all of the editors’ rights. They can lock and unlock the video, they have access to administration tools. When you have too many people in this role, it can cause problems. I would put them as translators, but I’m told by CMs that I shouldn’t on a presub. Is Viki going to bring in a new role for that too ?

When you’re the moderator, CMs aren’t the ones who should tell you if you have the right to add someone as subber or editor.
Once you are added as a language moderator, your language team is your team, you are the one managing it.
Same as being added as Translations Editor or simply Editor.
No CM should force someone to use this or that role.
Same as no CM should force someone to be co-moderator or co-anything with someone else.
In the past, when editor role didn’t really exist even if we had editors, we were adding OL editors as subbers, not as moderators. It happened to have editors added as moderators sometimes to be able to lock/unlock videos, but most of the time, editors were added as subbers to avoid confusion.
If you feel like some people aren’t editors, then you shouldn’t add them as such.
It’s your own choice in the end who you add to your team and with which role.
As long as you respect Viki rules about the roles you use depending on what people are really doing, it shouldn’t be a problem for anyone.

@brendas Is there any news? That “bot” keeps going even on fully subbed dramas, modifying segments which were created/fixed by the experienced segmenters, which took hours of work…

Seems like it modified segments and Portuguese subtitles on DNA Lover, looking at their profile, and I’m not sure it’s the only project which got segments modified.

By the way, I agree with @bozoli’s idea.
Having another subtitle track called “automatic translation” for the most popular languages would satisfy everyone.
