IMHO, AI is . . . Google on steroids. A search tool, and since searching includes writing, also a writing tool. And a promotional gimmick.
Microsoft has “smart” Bing. Opera has Aria, and Google has Bard. Pick me, pick us, you can’t live without the brand of AI we offer; you know you want to do more and think less and buy our products with beezillions in cryptocurrency.
When I was part of the Viki Community on Discord, I mean D-i-s-c-o-r-d, I got completely distracted by BlueWillow AI. At the same time, I played around with ChatGPT (YouTube foodies cooked ChatGPT recipes, and I did, too, with mediocre results).
We’ve all had moments of skepticism and hilarity as a result of “Discobot,” the Viki algorithm that routinely censors harmless words and phrases.
As I see it, the reality is that, whatever flavor of AI is under consideration, each one is just a computer program that cannot exceed the intelligence of its programmers.
In that sense, AI will never suddenly “awake” and BWAHAHA!!! rule the world and reduce humanity to an enslaved species. But, as @mirjam_465 points out, it will enable power-hungry, ego-driven people to create a world in which everything is very easy for them and very difficult for “the little guy.”
