Which languages do you know and which do you want to learn?

Oh :frowning: Sorry to hear that.

I say give the Korean one more chance. Then move on to the Mandarin afterward. It might be easier once youā€™ve finished a ā€œfull-speed-aheadā€ run with Korean.

Fluent on English and Tagalog (Philippines)
Level 2 on Korean and some Spanish. But I pretty much can differentiate languages from each other. I love linguistic so I will be learning until I get tired.

Thatā€™s neat. I have a pretty good ear for distinguishing languages, too, and I started to teach myself the International Phonetic Alphabet recently, because I was always sad I couldnā€™t squeeze that class in during college. I think it will make learning additional languages even easier in the future.

Wow, itā€™s so encouraging to see so many motivated and ambitious people here on Viki!

I am fluent in English and Chinese (Mandarin). I have been studying Spanish for many years (though I canā€™t say that Iā€™m anywhere near fluentā€¦ haha). I wish to learn Korean and French~

Lots of good languages in that mix

East Asian studiesā€¦
Iā€™m American, but love martial arts movies. About a year and a half ago, I was watching ā€˜Ip Manā€™ with Donnie Yen.
In much of it there is Japanese soldiers and I was wondering, ā€˜when were Japanese soldiers ever in China?ā€™
That started me wanting to learn about East Asia, which I did on my own. I learned so much!!
Japanā€¦ I had no idea!!! I had a big problem with them for a while. Until I decided that the young people of Japan cannot be blamed for their past,
So languagesā€¦ I would like to learn Korean, first, but also Mandarin and surprisingly Japanese.
My only concern with Korean is that it is supposed to be very hard for English speakers.
I hope it wonā€™t be too bad.

Iā€™m glad you got over that hang-up. The fact that you did it yourself, too, speaks volumes about your maturity when it comes to others, their history, and culture. Itā€™s people like you who get to travel around the world and make a positive impact.

If want to learn Korean, I say go for it. I know thereā€™s a couple of threads on here with links and suggestions, so if you search something like ā€œlearn Koreanā€ they should pop up. I wish you all the best as you move forward!

Hahahahah you are just like me in french

I can speak french (native) and english (also native). I learned spanih at school but I only know the basics now and I also know basic korean and mandarin.
I would like to learn more mandarin and korean and would like to start learning russian.

haha. this is the ā€œdabble a little; dabble a lotā€ approach. iā€™ve managed quite successfully with it over the years. have you found any resources to start learning Russian yet?

no not yet but I think the best way to learn a new language is to enjoy it for example in korean I mostly leaned over the year by learning the vocabulary and then the conjugaison comes naturally. I was surprised the first time I watched a drama episode raw I understood pretty much everything (it was empress ki I didnā€™t have the courage to wait 4 days after the broadcast to see it)

Thatā€™s pretty neat. Did you learn enough Spanish to compete with your French and English?

Did you learn the alphabet first?
Everyone says with Korean, you have to learn the alphabet first and then you can go to other things.

no I mostly speak korean and am learning hangyul when I have time.

Hello everyone!
I know:

  • Italian
  • English
  • German (not super good)
  • Spanish
I love languages so I know some words/phrases of different languages

Iā€™m currently studying Korean (but itā€™s self-study T.T), and I want to study Norwegian (I can read it and I understand some words).

Donā€™t cry. Iā€™m self-studying Korean, also. And Norwegian! Thatā€™s the first Iā€™ve seen, but thatā€™s great, too.

Two languages at the same time?? Woah i give you props for that!
I learned a bit of Norwegian by myself because Iā€™d always wanted to go to Norway on holidays and when I did I learned it a bit. Haha

It seems to me that Iā€™m the only person in this discussion who speaks greek

I know:

  • Greek(native)

  • English (fluently)

  • Italian (fluently)

  • French (I can read but hardly speak. My accent has always been horrible)
Iā€™m learning Spanish on my own (I use an app Duolingo, Iā€™ve also tried busuu)
I would like to learn (not necessarily in this order):

  • Portuguese

  • Mandarin

  • Japanese (already know some words and phrases thanks to anime)

I will never learn German or Arabic because of the pronounciation, simply impossible for me. I tried learning Swedish but I gave up for pronounciation reasons. Sorry but I canā€™t make a sound that sounds like an s,f,h at the same time!
