It would also be interesting to find out whether other legal sites have more recent Japanese contents, to compare.

I only recently discovered this site while searching for sites streaming Japanese drama in the UK, so I am keen to see more of them here. It seems really difficult to find any sites licensed to stream Japanese drama in the UK. I only know Crunchyroll, but they only have a few

I recently had to make some choices regarding my expenses (dropping subscriptions due to finances) After spending several days deciding i chose to keep my viki subscription and drop DF. my main reason for doing so was the fact that viki has a much larger selection of jdramas. But i have noticed that finding new and on air jdramas is very hard to do (most recent jdrama is 3 yrs old). but after researching i discovered that viki is actually owned by a japanese company (Rakuten). so i figured if anyone would have the better chance of getting jdramas it would be a company from japan. So my question is…Why is it so hard to get current japanese dramas? and why did the few japanese on air shows that they do get (upcoming and Hello! Project Station ) stop getting subtitled?

sometimes the Japanese team starts translating, but then they get the word that they are no longer allowed to and that their subtitles are going to be removed.

Would love to see more Jdrama on Viki. But I heard the license process for Japanese content is complicated. Not for Viki alone but in general Japan likes to keep things more for themselves so getting a license is hard and most likely when they are willing to give a license they ask a lot of money and come with a set of rules which might not work out. As for limited Japanese subs, I have a channel where eventually the Japanese subs where locked because the content owner did request it.

I had hoped that now Viki is Rakuten’s (which is a Japanese company) it would lead to more Jdrama on Viki but I guess not
